The dealer just obtained Nissan's authorization for a 2nd replacement CVT, this time with an oil cooler added. I see on this forum & Rogue's it is a recurring issue. I did not have driveability issues yet but was getting a whine on warm days after highway speeds for an hour or more, often on grades. The dealer could not duplicate it but communicated extensively with a knowledgeable Nissan tech to get it approved. My mileage before the first replacement for the same issue was 60k; this time the replacement lasted only 19k before the whine started again. Covered under the extended CVT warranty.

That's too bad. Hopefully the oil cooler will make the difference this time. These cars were made to have them, all the bolt holes and passages are there. The CVT does need a different cooler housing as well. Its very nice but expensive if you don't get the factory to pay for it.
The CVTs have over-temp protection built into the operating logic. Noise and reduced performance are an output of the logic.
Good luck.

Thanks. It seems quieter overall now, and no whine. Nissan covered everything, so I'm pleased.
