Here's a positive story that illustrates how durable and reliable the CVT can be. Fifteen SanFrancisco City Ford Escape Hybrid cabs, which use the exact same CVT as the Rogue (manufactured by Jatco) have recently hit the 300,000 mile mark and are still going strong. That is what I would consider harsh driving conditions, stop and go city driving, and 300,000 miles is incredible for city-only driving, and in only a matter of a few years. As a side note, they said the hybrid components including the batteries are still original and working great as well, far exceeding expectations - way to go Ford and JATCO/Nissan!! Here's the article if you're interested.

I've got 50,000 km with no problems, and our lead moderator on the Rogue forum has close to 150,000, no problems with his car whatsoever, and to top all of us we have a Rogue owner (all Rogue's have the 2.5 motor with CVT transmission)with around 160,000 Miles, and again he's had no problems with his Rogue at all.

~87.5k miles on my mom's 07 Altima, no issues, with no maintenance (fluid exchanges) so far. Nissan said the fluid is still serviceable at this mileage.

No problems. I do an oil change every 5-7k, and stay on top of the scheduled maintenance, and I haven't had any issues with the engine. Only unexpected issues I've had to deal with are the wheel bearings. I've had two go out (front passenger, front driver), and that's like $300 to get the wheel hub assembly replaced each time.

No. I ask about it every time I'm in for scheduled maintenance, but the dealer always tells me that the computer on the thing reports that it's unnecessary. I'll ask in a couple thousand miles when I'm in again.

Haha, I know. I make sure to ask and it's still under warranty, so I'm okay with it. Might demand that they do it before I hit 120k.

My friend has a 2009 2.5L Altima his parents bought for him. It was a used rental car, purchased with around 15k on it. Around 39k miles, he just had his transmission replaced for free under warranty. I don't know any details besides that.

My mother's '07 Altima still has no issues with the CVT. I'm thinking of getting the fluid exchanged by Nissan once it hits around 100k - it has nearly 90k now. It seems the fluid is about $17.27/qt at Courtesy Parts - a full fluid exchange will quickly become expensive in fluid cost alone. The FSM says there are two transmissions used by the '07 Altima - I'll need to take a look at the vehicle to determine fluid capacity and add 30-50% of that to get a thorough exchange.

75,000 could hear vibration during acceleration. Nissan replaced transmission. Second cvt lasted 1,000 miles befor unloading transmission fluid in my driveway.. third transmission at 3,500 miles still going strong.

Check our our Rogue forum, the Rogue shares the same QR2.5 engine and identical CVT part, we have an 08 owner who has about 300,000 km with no problems, no major repairs or major maintenance items. He says the car runs almost as good as new still and plans to keep driving it:

88,000 miles, and counting. Hoping it'll outlast my ownership of the car. I put about 20-25k miles a year, and drive around normally, with some aggressive acceleration (floored) now and then on a daily basis.
