so i was at a stoplight last night and a new-ish golf pulled up with a lowered suspension, nice wheels and loud exhaust i'm pretty sure he thought was cool sounding. he gave a couple of revs for show and i didn't look over. the light turned and i pegged my cvt at about 5k rpm and we stayed neck and neck till he decided to shift into 4th. he gave up by the time i was up by half a length.

not too shabby for an all stock cvt if i may say. now i really need an exhaust, cai, and can somebody please tell me when we'll have a turbo available?

Street racer.

And there won't be a turbo any time soon. the only turbo kit was FoxMarketingVersa's, which he is currently in the middle of parting out.

BTW - If you wanted to SERIOUSLY mod your car for power, you chose the wrong drivetrain. The small CVT that they put in the Versa can't handle nearly the power that the 6MT can.

Pretty funny. I'm guilty of a "red-light race" from time to time, but my idea of 'racing' is accelerating promptly to the speed limit. No lane changing, no speeding, and nothing crazy in the midst of traffic, and rarely if ever even revving close to redline.

That said, it is awfully fun to surprise people with the Versa, as most truck and SUV owners around here tend to drive like they're trying to run subcompacts off the road simply because they're small. The Versa is a peppy little car though, and it's fun to rip up to speed quickly, although with the low-end grunt the CVT provides, I'm find just as much fun in putting around, too.

Like EV's redface indicates, though, actual "street racing" isn't condoned on this board, so keep that in mind. You did pick the wrong car/drivetrain if you're really concerned with making a street beast, too.

Agreed, and I can't believe you can't tell what version it is and isn't even sure if it's a Golf/Rabbit or Jetta.

True story. I blew the doors off a Dodge Viper in my stock 1987 Nissan 2WD pickup (total rust bucket with leaky exhaust). I revved my engine (2.4L NAPS-Z with out-of-adjustment rocker arms)... he revved his... I floored it... he apparently wasn't in the mood for a race, so I beat the snot out of him! (and my truck!). True story.

Was it ugly like this:

MK IV Golf

or this?MK IV Jetta

Or was it ugly like this:

Toyota Cor...er MK V Jetta.

or ugly like this:MK V Golf. Or Rabbit. I'm completely lost by their new naming for this car anyway. They're both horrible names.

The night I got my Versa, I saw another Versa as I was getting on a highway. I stayed behind him for about 35 miles, and we both got off at the same exit. It was intense.

I always tell my son..." a good driver in bad car can beat a bad driver in a good car!

I went from a Jetta into a Versa. My Jetta out performed and out handled the Versa even with a 165K.

But you can still have your Dreams!

True story. I was at a light and a tricked out '68 Mustang pulled up rumbling and shaking, his blower staring at me from the cut out on his hood. The light turned green and I stomped on it. He turned right at the light, but I blew his doors off. True story.

Rather than entering into theological debates, let's keep things focussed on the V, shall we?

Seriously, my sister's 1990 Jetta handles WAY better than the Versa. However, her car is more likely to break down, so the tortoise wins...

Sounds like you got a lucky one there... From what my two ex-Jetta owning friends have told me about their cars, I will steer far clear of 'em.

friend of mine had a jetta once, i hated riding in that thing - always smelled like exhaust, but he said there was nothing wrong with it... i guess he loved it too much to admit there was something wrong with it. the only worthwhile vdubs are beetles anyways but that subject belongs on a different thread.
