I've got a 2010 Altima 2.5S with the CVT, and Im wondering how much HP and torque its rated to hold. The only mods I'm considering for this car, performance wise, is to replace the mufflers and tips and to remove the resonator and possibly put in an intake. I did both of those before on my old car and gained some horsepower as well as some fuel economy which is why I'm considering these two mods, but I want to make sure the transmission will hold up.

The next question is, will doing either of those 2 mods void my warranty in any way? I dont know much about Nissan's warranty and am just trying to cover my own behind.

I appreciate the answers in advance.

I purchased my 2012 Nissan Altima brand new from the dealer. I have had it right at 2 years. We have noticed in the last six months that when we travel long distances it starts to loose power and it make a squeaky noise. We have taken it to the dealer, because it is still under warranty but they say nothing is wrong. We drove it Saturday for a round trip of 200 miles, it was fine going but on the way back it started loosing power. My husband pressed the gas pedal to the floor, but the speed did not increase. Once the needle reached about 20 then it started to increase with him pressing the gas pedal, but only to about 50. Can someone tell what this may be? The dealer said that the transmission is a "lifetime transmission" with a sort of oil in it that never needs to be changed that is why the transmission cap has a lock on it. Something is wrong, but I want to know before my warranty expires. Please advise!

The 2011-2012 CVT equipped Altimas have transmission warranty to 100k miles. How many miles do you have on your car? Moreover, the CVT fluid is changeable and should be checked and/or changed at 60k miles. Do you live in a hot climate state? I have heard that the CVT can get a little funky if the car is driven for an extended period of time during hot weather and go into "limp mode"/"protection mode". The CVT can also operate "rough" when it's first started and/or during cold weather until the CVT reaches it's normal operating temperature whereas the CVT will operate smoothly.

The dealership is definitely aware of the problem you described to them, However, the dealership will not touch the CVT unless you bring your car in so they are able to hear/see the problems for themselves---the problem must be duplicated at the dealership. The dealership will need to have proof of a CVT problem in order to submit a replacement claim. However, continue to bring your car to the dealership everytime your car has an issue with the CVT performance for documentation purposes. You can also instigate a case with Nissan Consumer Affairs too, but it's a 50/50 chance that doing so will be of any help. :tisk:

The CVT for the 2.5 engine is rated to hold 175bhp, However, the max power that the CVT can handle isn't published anywhere. However, the bolt on mods you're planning to install will not negatively affect your car's CVT or warranty.

Sweet. It sucks that they don't publish max power anywhere cause that would be a really handy bit of information to have.

I wish I would have known about all this with the CVT before I bought the car though, as it may have swayed me to look at other brands/models/transmissions more than this. I'm now pretty concerned that I'm going to end up having my transmission going out at some point before the car is paid off. I've only got 45k miles on mine as of right now, and my last car took me 4 years to put 40k on, so I should be around the 100k mark about the time I pay this one off, but it still has me a bit concerned.

Any tips or tricks you guys have learned to help with the longevity of the transmission?
