I have a 08 altima coupe with the VQ and I am about to go turbo but I have been wondering does anyone know the limits for the CVT trans as far as HP and TQ?

My car only has 30K and I will get the fluid flushed and changed before I boost it but I want to know the limits so I dont destroy it. :rotflmao

I don't know the particular rating, but it seems that just about everybody with a 3.5CVT either does a 6MT swap before their turbo, or they left the CVT in there and melted it.

I think Ranga turbo'd his 3.5 and left the CVT in there, but we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, that's me. It's held up well thus far. I've had it boosted for a little over 2 months now and no issues. Although I don't drive a whole lot so with luck I may never have issues due to that. Rule of thumb is to not go over 5psi. As for what 5psi gives you in terms of HP. Well, that's debatable. Probably anywhere from 300-350whp I'm guessing depending upon the tune and if anything else is done performance wise. I think someone mentioned once that the CVT can handle up to 400hp (crank) but don't quote me on that.

Also, the CVT transmission cooler is a must if you do it. With that, you won't really have to worry about overheating it.

You have a link to the CVT trans cooler? Im new to the CVT trans... use to have a boosted 05 sentra spec V and I just got rid of my low 12 second SRT4

Thanks again!

So how do you like it being boosted so far? What turbo did you go with? I talked with turbokits.com and they said they have a fully bolt on kit (of course with modification) and I think they said 60-1 turbo. But they want 5400$

The SFR turbo kit, it's really similar, same setup almost and it's $5,500 as I remember although I got it off of a previous owner for a lot cheaper than that so I got lucky. :P As for the trans cooler....

I believe it's one of those, can't remember the exact one. So how did you land into a 3.5 CVT?

I traded in my neon srt4 for a low milage evo 8. On the test drive everything felt solid. (I beat the s*** out of cars on test drives) Didnt hear anything off point and everything felt good. I took the evo home that night and the next day was a toltally different story... I started it in the morning and all the lifters were ticking hella bad... Ok no big deal I could just replace them. Then on my way to work the fkn oil light comes on... ok no big deal Ill just change the oil pressure switch.. I change the switch and the light goes out for awhile and comes back on... Oil level is perfect.... means the oil pump is bad... ffuucckkk... And on top of all that the clutch is starting to slip... And finally on the way back to the dealer it starts to put out ALOT of blue smoke when you go WOT...

I told the dealer give me my SRT back now! They said we cannot do that because we have already paid it off.... (I traded it in) I said ok you had better find me a car that I love and give me a fkn killer price on it or you can keep my car and Ill just give my lawyer a call... They said that they had just bought a car from auction that I might like. I go out and look at it and it looks nice. Has scratched 350z wheels with bald tires so the guy says dont worry about that we are putting brand new wheels and tires on it. SWEET! Well the wheels they put on are 20" Chrome velocitys..... BLEH.... But its all good I will just sell them and get some Decent 18's or something...

So yea thats my story... lol

Got any speedo pull shots of your car? Want to see one boosted from the inside. I took my car to the track last night. 14.609 @ 98mph Not too shabby for a 3250LB car on 20s... lol

60-1 is the type of turbo that the kit comes with, otherwise known as the Super 60.

any aftermarket turbo kit will always need A lil modification rather it be "convincing" the radiator brackets (my sentra turbo kit) or removing A/C (almost all honda turbo kits) etc etc etc...

What bolt on means is just that you have everything you need to be boosted, and most of it just bolts on, lol.

What do you guys do for oil return off the turbo? Do you have to drill and tap the oil pan?

Yea man for sure hit me up some time. There is a SRT-4 dyno day this sunday. Idk if you would want to come or not its in stockton. Hit me up if you want to roll. Should be quite a few cars over 400hp and if pumpking dynos we should see over 750whp.

My name is Aaron 707-454-6178

These are head to heads with another coupe..

Pre Turbo:

They're kind of crap videos, I have some more on there to see as well. I need to take some more videos in manual mode so I can maintain higher boost. When keeping it in CVT mode it only stays at your peak boost momentarily then it drops down to 2-3psi. :\ But in manual mode it holds.

I just was scrolling through older threads and saw your turbo thread.

Thats wierd about the CVT/manual. Do you have any way to log timing while doing a pull?

They way cars are speed limited is done by what tires they come with. If the tires are Z-rated stock OEM equipment then there is no speed limiter. I dont know what is the speed rating on the stock A/C tires are though??

mmx23z it sounds like you are drag limited not speed limited. You can tell when you hit the speed limiter, It feels like fuel cut or hitting redline.
