the past few days i've been smelling a burning smell or something and i just thought it was me driving with the cut-out open well, last night i was coming home and saw my friend and he wanted to race so i said ok... i was in manual mode (we were going from a roll), so i have it in 1st or 2nd gear manual mode (we were at low speeds) and i floor the gas and then out of no where the car lets off for a sec or two and then gets back on it my foot was all the way on the gas and i didn't let off...... then today i was leaving the bank and had the car in "D" and was driving normal but the car wasn't going! i had to pretty much floor the gas for the car to go like 15-20 MPH..... then it went back to being fine...

my question is for those who have had there CVT transmissions replaced, what were some of the issues you experienced before it completely went out on you? i ask this cuz its like a 1 in a million chance that if i take it to the dealership that they will be able to have it mess up on them (it only acts up once in a while).

whatever it is, it's not good. have you taken it to the dealership or had a mechanic check it out yet?

Something similar happened to me once - maybe about 4 months ago - but (knock on wood) hasn't happened since...

I was driving down the highway in manual mode and suddenly lost all power to the wheels. The car was just revving as if it were in neutral and I couldn't shift up or down. I moved it back over to D and everything returned to normal. I even switched back to manual mode and that was working fine again as well..

Like you stated, I thought about bringing it to the dealership - but you know damn well they wouldn't be able to replicate the problem..

I think we've all been experienceing the same thing with the CVT... I kno Blake's car sometimes doesn't want to move when its in first gear(simulated of course), and will then fire off like a bat out of hell when it reaches the RPM's for second... and its not the turbo, its the CVT...

my car sometimes doesn't wanna give me all its got either, but then I'll notice, if its cool outside, she's run like she's got a freakin' supercharger under there...

Not wanting to wait until the CVT goes completely bad, I'm pretty sure I'll be stripping my car and selling it within the next two years.... gotta move up to something else for residency ... I won't get to enjoy half the crap on there anyway once residency starts... but hey, nothing lasts forever... she's been fun to drive!

thats what my brother told me too.... his corvette is just sitting in the garage cuz he blew his transmission. but ya, i'm going to start taking it easy, especialy since i got pulled over yesterday doing 80 MPH in a 45 (cop only got me at 60 though) but he ended up letting me go.... but with the transmission acting weird and enough tickets, i'm going to try and drive slower now...

well, my dad bought me the car brand new and said he's not buying me another car lol so the only way i'm getting something different is if my car gets totaled or something.... plus i love my altima coupe (just not the transmission)

Sounds close to what my transmission was acting like, but it did that a while before my transmission went out. Thinking back my car didn't crap out until my cvt "shifts" in manual mode started to not be smooth and the next day my car was on the side of the road. I would take it in and see what they tell you. I was told my transmission wasn't holding any pressure but my fluids were fine. Maybe you could ask for a pressure check? shrug... good luck.

Wow, I didn't know anyone else had had this problem... Mine has done the same to me quite a few times, and it's been happening a bit more often lately. Mine actually only stalls or whatever u wanna call it when I'm in D. Basically, I'll put the pedal down, and get power for a few seconds, like up to 10mph, then it lets off for about 2 seconds, then comes back. When I'm shifting, it doesn't do it, so I've been shifting lately... I think I might have it checked out this weekend. I love my car, but I'm really starting to hate this CVT crap. Shoulda gotten the manual.

i would take it to them but i don't think they would be too happy to see my electronic exhaust cut-out. only reason you would have that is to race and they might try to say i was racing and messed it up or some random bs the stealerships try to say.... don't want them to void my warranty AND tell me my transmission is going out... so i'm just sort of waiting for it to get worse and i plan to take the cut-out off soon if it continues to act up and just take it into the dealership.

They'd have to prove the cutout was the cause. I've tracked mine a few times but of course they can't tell that. If they give you BS just make em prove it.

Except the problem is that Hussein, I think his exhaust cutout is close to the transmission, CVT has an issue with Heat, and the exhaust gasses that are coming out of the car hot. That is proof enough, more power = more work for the transmission, more work makes heat, or if you heat the transmission which I think he has done, by ripping around town at 180KM/H with his exhaust cutout near the transmission. He probably french fried when he should of pizza'd.

lol that analogy always makes me laugh...... the cut-out isn't making the transmission hot BUT more power means more work for the transmission so its easy for them to say that it's my fault because of my mods and over working the transmission.... that's what i'm scared of.... i'm starting to not like my cut-out, too much temptation to use it ALL THE TIME.... before i would have to get under my car and unbolt things so i'd only have it like that at the track

Sorry I was thinking that the escaping exhuast gasses might be close to the transmission. If its a good distance away then its probably a bum transmission, the ~ +10HP wont kill your transmission.

ya thats what i'm thinking but i don't want to take it in and then end up having them void it.... i got to go talk to them about my mom's maxima and ill ask them if it voids the warranty if someone puts an electronic exhaust cut-out on

Maybe a clue can be found in the picture you used to have in your sig before you got the cutouts.

Just hope that your service writer hasn't seen it!

That is the same thing I was thinking. Most of the posts I have seen or recall you posting are from the track or you racing. Now I have no problem with that because it's your car and life (please dont take it the wrong way dude). But after a while your transmission abuse will come back to haunt you or anyone. Get that looked at before the ar leaves you while you are driving it. Just make sure to make the engine look stock before you take it to the dealer, if you do take it to the dealer. Good luck with it dude.

don't worry, i understand and no hard feelings i'm thinking about taking off the cut-out pretty soon and take it to them but i dont want to waste my time to have them say theres nothing wrong. right now the car is driving 100% perfect so im going to see if it continues to act up then ill take it back to stock and take it to the dealership....

I hear you, but his transmission shouldn't be acting up this soon... none of ours should actually... I think its a tell tale sign that Nissan won't put the CVt in either the 350Z auto, 370Z auto, or G37 auto. I think this CVT has major limitations that will only be exposed with time. I'm thinking about selling my car more and more everyday... and if something sexy enough comes out from a highly reputable company then I'm pretty sure I'll do just that!

Or I may just save up, and get a 1 year old Lexus Sc430 come graduation time... I know, it isn't much faster than our cars, but the interior is sex, and I could even keep the factory sound system... MARK LEVINSON FTMFW baby!

You know, when I read through your post again, it seems like it is going into something called fail-safe mode. I've seen it mentioned in other posts here before, but I have a 6MT myself so I didn't really think much of it. Maybe the 15-20 mph thing is all the dealer will need to know. There may be a diagnostic code stored, too.

I'm with you on that Doc. My car is paid in full and is only costing me what insurance and gas at this point. But with all of the mods I've put into it, not sure what I'd sell it for. I truly understand that there is a difference between true vale and monetary value

Wouldn't he be able to tell by simply waddling his *** outta the office and looking for himself?
