I bought my 2008 A/C used and recently the CVT has developed a "whine" noise that keeps coming back after about 20 min on the freeway. I took it to the dealership and they said if it is a CVT issue, it could be covered by warranty so I scheduled a full 3-5 day test and possible CVT replacement. My question is, if it is covered by warranty, is it possible to convert to a manual transmission instead of putting in a new CVT? Typically, automatic transmissions cost around a grand more than manual and I'm hoping that could cover as much as the labor cost as it can. Can someone tell me if this is at all possible, or if it's possible at a Nissan dealership, and if you have any idea how much it would cost?

Yeah, I'm the guy that did that swap. There's no way Nissan would touch that with a 10 foot pole. I would just go ahead and have them replace the CVT under warranty then trade in the car for a 6speed or a Z or something. :)

I'm the guy who had this done way before SFR completed the second one ever done way back in 2010 =D. After four years I've had zero complications. The weird thing about the transmission swap is my car is completely stock outside of rims and springs, but some how it increased in speed 10 folds. I can literally beat stock 350/370s off the line. So I don't know if the swap has caused my restrictors to turn off or what, but I'm not complaining, lol.

I highly doubt though Nissan will change it to a MT from a CVT because at the end of the day your VIN # is for a CVT and not a MT. So basically no matter what you do if you swap it your warenty goes bye bye.
