Lately, I've noticed a couple of times when after accelerating briskly the CVT seems to "stay in gear" so to speak, as if it's in manual mode.

Everytime this has happened, it's after the tires have trouble gripping. ie punch it, the wheels spin a little excessively, let off at 30mph, the RPMs stay up as if it were in manual mode. Let off the gas completely for a few seconds, or switch to manual mode and back again, fixes the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

i know if you press the accelerator in all the way in til it clicks it will keep it at high rpms for speed. but i know mine seems to be stuck in gear when a accelerate hard as well.

So when you let off the accelerator, your RPMs stay high? This is behaviour I never noticed in the past. After letting off, the RPMs would drop.

But then again, I don't floor it that often.

That sucks guys. But all that means is you should've gotten the manual !!

The CVT bashing on these forums is tiresome. It still works; I'm trying to identify an occasional quirk.

Had I purchased a real sports car, and not a coupe, I'd have gone with a manual. Purchasing a manual in a platform such as an altima, and then snubbing autos, is pretty comical.

Im not sure if this is what youre talking about but if it is here ya go.

If you are slamming the pedal (just to where the rpm's jump) and hold it there for a bit, then let go of the pedal for a second or two, then push the pedal again and the rpm's jump back up to like 5k+

thats the cvt adjusting to your driving habits i believe. To my knowledge the way it was designed is so if youre easy on the pedal the rpm's stay low, however if you keep the pedal floored you are telling it that you dont care about the economics you want to go fast, so it jumps up.

...if that's what youre saying, if not... this was a pointless looooonnnggg post

Agreed - the CVT does 'learn' your habits and try to stay with them...

However this happened to me once before, and I don't really ever "punch" it when I'm driving. I think it just may be that the cvt needed to cycle back to a different size and it couldn't do it...it's weird, but i don't think its anything to worry about...

But the people that buy the CVT and tune them are basically posers. Yes when you get the 3.5SE that is a powerful motor. But there is more work you can do with a 4-cylinder then with a 6 because of the engine compartment space. As well as the 6 cylinder weighs more so the power you put into a 4-cylinder tho the gains may be relatively the same as far as horsepower and torque but the weight issue helps the 4-cylinder cause less weight means more actual gains. It's all a matter of basically what your really trying to achieve in the car as well. I went with the MT cause it's pretty rare. When i bought my car there were only 3 MT's in Maryland. I am not bashing but when it comes down to the quarter mile and racing i want to control my car in every way possibly not just push a pedal and steer but everyone sees it differently
