Today i was driving and i was in the far left lane and i changed my mind and want to go right. There were no cars coming behind me so i threw it in reverse and then to drive really fast and then the car stalled, had to shut it off and turn it back on. my bother who was in the back seat said that it stalled just like how a manual car would . anyone else have this happen?

It's stalling because the CVT is trying to protect itself from damage. If you want to shift from R to D fast, you still have to make sure that you are at a complete stop before throwing it into D.

cant imagine its good for the car. I've done it on the freeway once, thought i was in manual mode but apparently it wasnt. I went directly from drve to reverse.

wOW I thought there was some sort of safety mechanism that stops to stick from going into R above certain speed (CVT ofcourse) ... no?

Same here. I can't imagine putting it into R.

Also... even if you're completely stopped... you cant put it in R without pressing the brake. But I can see the engine stopping or stalling going in reverse at like 20mph... then snapping the stick down to D (no need for brake going R - N - D).

::EDIT:: I just remembered...

When I was younger... I love going to the mall parking lot and start doing ebrake spins/drifts. I would go up to 50mph... pull the ebrake and do a full 180 and roll backwards while still in D. This stalled my car couple of times. So I started putting it in N right before the spin and the stall stopped. Never understood why it work till now. Hehe good ol days~

Always be at STANDSTILL. Whatever gear you choose (D or R) it has to match whatever direction your wheels are going in. N -> R while vehicle is traveling forward = fail. N -> D while vehicle is traveling backwards = fail.

yeah- from my recollection.. i think theres some sort of transmission arm that when pulled back enuf in the wrong direction, car stalls

what he said^ is also why reverse bombs are horrible on ur transmission.(going slightly in reverse, then shifting to d and gunning it to make a "better" burnout)
