I have searched the forum, and have not been able to find a thread regarding this, but if I missed one, I apologize.

I am trying to find accurate numbers as far as what RPM's people are turning in their Versas with CVT at highway speeds.

Here is what mine (2009 1.8SL hatch) is turning.

70mph = 3000 rpm
55 mph = 2400 rpm

now.. I have seen one or two reports where some people have said that their CVT's are getting 70 MPH @ 2400 RPM. Is there some kind of update that can be done to bring the final ratio of the CVT down to get that? I have seen where 3000~3200 rpm @ 70MPH is what some people are turning in their 4sp Auto and 6sp Man.

I do 80% of my driving on a 40 mile round trip highway commute, and I am only getting 28.13 MPG in the year that I have had the car. I have tried all kinds of driving styles to bring the MPG up, but I cannot figure out how some people are getting 30+ MPG.

So if you can, post your RPM's at 55 and 70 MPH for your CVT Versa.

On relatively flat terrain 2400 rpm and 70 mph is about right for my '07 with CVT. At 65 mph the rpms run about 2300 or so. I'll check on rpms at 55 tomorrow when I run over to Covina and get back to you.

I'm not mechanic or even very knowledgeable about transmissions but it sounds like something is wrong if your cvt has to rev that high to maintain 70 mph provided your commute is fairly flat.

2400-2500 RPM here at 70 mph with my CVT. It sorta sounds as if your CVT isn't locking in. Your dealership should get that fixed and then you should have no problem getting to 30 mpg if you're already getting 28-29. It's mostly not a "driving style" thing. Some cars of the same model just get better mileage than others. My old Neon with a 3-speed slushomatic got way better than the sticker mileage and I was not easy on it.

See.. that's in line with what I have been seeing from other users.. and yes.. my commute is flat. I live in South Louisiana! (bout as flat as it gets!)

Cool.. I'm not looking to get 40 by any stretch of the imagination, but 30-32 would be nice! I had 98 Neon R/T with a 5 speed that I used to get 33 with. I figured something had to be wrong with it.

Obvious afterthought: are you sure your overdrive is on?

I've got to agree - something's wrong. We have thee Versa CVT's in the family and all run about 2000rpm at 60mph and 2500rpm at 75mph on level ground. Good luck.

Yea, something is wrong as they other posters have said. I have a 100 mile commute per day mainly highway. I cruise at 80MPH and I'm just about at 3000. It's probably more like 2900 - 2950.

FYI, I dropped to 55 mph on the frewway today for a while on my trip over to Covina. Pretty steady at 1950 rpms.

33 is really considering the trans in the R/T was designed for speed and not fuel economy.

33 is what I would get when I would be on an all highway mileage trip.. mixed driving I used to get about 27-28.

By the way.. I took it in on Monday, and they found something... my tach is reading 500 RPM's too fast.. It sits there on 500 even when the motor is off and I never noticed it before.

I guess my theory of the CVT running too high isn't causing my mileage issues.

When I'm at 100km/h on the highway (60m/h) my RPMS are hovering close to 2100.

When I am cruising the highway at 85MPH, my RPMs run at about 2900. 1.8 CVT here.

I'm getting 33 MPG consistently. So pretty happy.

Ya the CVT runs it at lower RPMS :D

Sounds like someone didn't stick the needle on right  . But about your mileage, it may be that the engine is still breaking in. Sometimes it takes a lot of miles.

do you have heavy wheels? sticky tires? run a/c? these could all have an effect?
and hot weather does it too.

I got about 13,000 miles on it so far, so I would hope that the break-in period is over.

Stock alloy rims.

Stock Tires.

Run A/C EVERY day (I live in South Louisiana) :)

I did, however, find a local station that has ethanol free gas, so I just filled it up the other day. Going to go back in a day or so to see what kind of mileage I am getting.
