I have an 08 as well w/ CVT and no problems here. My brother has an 09 SE-R and no problems w/ his CVT either. I'm happy they extended the warranty. Now I can drive it for 10 years worry free (for the most part). If she lasts me 10 years I'll be happy.slaggit wrote:Yeah, I know it won't cost but I'm curious why now? Was wanting to know if others have heard of major CVT problems with this car., cuz now ever little clunk I hear I figure the transmission is going out, LOL !
Wow, your car is still a baby, you have no mileage on her !!!!!!!!!!!slaggit wrote:Good responses, thanks everyone. Believe it or not, my '08 has under 7,000 miles. The transmission is good although when I set cruise control to 35mph to make the lights along one long stretch of road, it really chugs along. The CVT doesn't perform smoothly at low speeds apparently.
When I mentioned I had decided on a Versa on my GM foum one of the guys chimed in saying it was a s***ty car. His friend and him and driven a S Versa from a rental company. Which is not where you decide on a car, rental cars are crappy to begin with.Bubs daddy wrote:I would much rather have a longer warranty than a shorter one. It means Nissan backs their vehicles.
They've been making CVT's for years. Mine is over three years old and runs great.
Remember that more people will post about problems than post about another uneventful day in their reliable car.
Also remember that many people will post on forums and claim to have problems with a car they never own. They intentionaly disparage the car because they don't like the brand or a hundred other reasons.
Anyone could come in here and say they own a Versa and the CVT dropped out of their car today. No proof, no pics, just false testimony...basically lying. It's done all the time so that negative and derogatory references populate search engines to give a false impression of lots of problems when in fact, there are very little.
I agree, I have the 2008 SL and I can honestly say so far it's been the best and most practical vehicle I have ever had. I'm leasing it and plan to buy out the lease when it comes up. I also got the notice of the increased warranty and felt that it was proof that Nissan stands behind their product. When I asked the dealer what the motivation was to do this, I was told that there had been a few issues with the CVT in the Rogue and as a result Nissan decided to stand behind the CVT because they felt this was a very good transmission. I have found I can save a lot of fuel by driving it smoothly but if I want the fast passing and acceleration I can also get it but the trade off is fuel economy. I can save or I can pay to play.....my choice and I love it. My first Nissan product and so far I'm very pleased.Bubs daddy wrote:I would much rather have a longer warranty than a shorter one. Lease is up on my '08 in June 2011. Since this lease happened before the auto industry hit bottom, maybe I have some negotiation on the residual price they want which is over $8,000. I put a lot down on this car so I could get low payments when I should have entered a purchase agreement NOT a lease. Only reason I stuck with the lease was to have a new car to drive for 3 years, flip it and re-lease at the end. That doesn't make sense now. One thing, I will not exceed the allowed mileage which will work against me when it comes to negotiation time. With low mileage, they can put that out on the lot and sell it for decent money I'd think. I so screwed up in this lease situation.Promise Land wrote:When is the lease up?
I'm really happy about the extended CVT warranty if I end up keeping this car. I'm an older lady and just want something super-reliable. I like being under warranty the whole time I have a car, that's why I'll probably just start a new lease with a 2011 model when this lease is up. I'll have to eat the big downpayment I made on the lease though. Not such a good idea. Is your V the S or SL?Rand0m0sityxX wrote:

Our CVT has been good, its an '08 Sl with 43k on it now. The warranty is a good assurance that if something goes wrong they'll back it up and fix it, which is better than other dealers.
Good points, I agree now that they are just trying to stand by this CVT transmission, and it is interesting to hear how candid the dealer was about problems with the Rogue CVT. I do a lot of city street driving and find, at lower speeds, it really chugs but I'm getting used to it over time. Thanks for your insight and addition to this discussion.the djay wrote:

I should have bought the V outright. Guess I just wanted to try it out via lease which really cost me. I'll be smarter next time trust me.Rand0m0sityxX wrote:
