CVT oil change procedure/part numbers?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,
I have a '22 QX55, which I believe has the same CVT as the QX50...
I have read, to increase the life of the CVT... Keep the transmission fluid changed!

I am looking for a procedure on how to change the transmission fluid and the part numbers for the parts I need.

Thanks!

Yep, you have a GE0F10A, the same series transmission as the gen3 Rogues. So far it's proven to be a very reliable unit. It takes the same NS3 fluid (or NS3 equivalent) as all late model Nissan products. For a simple spill and fill, have 5 quarts on hand (you may only need 4).

I give all DIYers the same advice. Unless you have leaks, the best method is to spill-and-fill cold, tape mark a bucket and replace exactly the amount you took out. That applies even when dropping the pan, just make sure you catch all the old fluid for a corect measurement. Overfilling is the one thing fatal to pretty much all CVT's, and exact replacement is the best and simplest means to avoid ever doing that.

In to follow this one and learn. I plan on having the dealer do it, to document the record for the extended warranty.

A little off topic, but personally I find this CVT pretty impressive in how smooth it is, and seemingly always right in "the zone". It's the first and only CVT I've owned.

Staying in the max powerband at WOT is the coolest thing about CVT's in general. People b!tc# about them being a little sluggish off the line, which admittedly they are, but once they hit power it's pull-pull-pull. The wife has a '13 Altima CVT and I have an '04 beater 4AT, and they have exactly the same claimed quarter times from Nissan. I can tell you the '04 romps the '13 off the line, but after the first shift she's catching me like a bullet and past the quarter it's a one-car race. We only raced them twice, I got tired of seeing her taillights.

So I've read it in the owners manual and confirmed with the dealer every time I visit that (they gotta hate that LOL) that first scheduled fluid change is the earlier of 60K miles or 96 months, and they have confirmed in each visit that they have no desire to change it (and charge me for it) before that time, and nor do they recommend it.

...which is exactly why they blow and have a (very unnecessary and undeserved) s#it reputation. I've mentioned ad nauseum about Nissan's reasoning in keeping the official "cost of ownership" low. They expect you to drive it for 5 years and either make it someone else's problem or pay for an out-of-warranty transmission. That recommendation in the OM is pure marketing and not what's best for the vehicle.

Free advice from a Nissan master tech (me) who understands both CVT's and marketing baloney: Change the damn fluid.
