I have a 2011 Versa Hatch with CVT. I have two questions for which I'd like a 'technical' explanation.

1) When OD {off} button is depressed, exactly what happens mechanically? Does the transmission not seek a ratio beyond 1:1 - thereby effectively 'locking out' overdrive CVT ratios? I'm asking how the OD 'off' function actually functions;

2) Same query for 'Low." What really happens when you move shift lever to 'Low.' Does the transmission 'lock out' CVT ratios beyond what would amount to a 'low gear' ratio?

I can't seem to find a technical explanation of how these two functions actually work. The 2011 Versa Shop Manual {DVD} doesn't provide any description of how it operates.

Thanks ~ james

As CVT is just a band that adjusts I would agree with both of your assumptions.
