Anyone have an opinion on which accelerates faster? I have ran my 2.5 s 0-60 through manual mode but I have not tried it in just regular drive mode. I have noticed if you punch it in drive you can keep the rpms at the sweet spot since it's a cvt but is this more proficient than running through the manual mode gears?

I have no Idea for the 2.5S CVT vs 2.5S 6MT..but for the 3.5SE check this thread:zer...21578

It has both the 3.5SE 6MT and CVT times, plus the 2.5S 6MT times.

He's asking about 0-60 in CVT vs regular drive, not CVT vs MT.

You got it. Don't know if anyone else has ran threw the gears both ways and has a different opinion. Hopefully someone else has a opinion on this matter because it doesn't look like it!! heh

LOL i agree, never saw two people argue that much....... almost as bad as a married couple lol

but about CVT vs MANUAL MODE cvt, i noticed that when i raced my friend, he'd beat me in manual mode but as soon as i put it in regular "D" all of a sudden i kept winning. so i assume just regular "D" is faster. it's just that it drives so smooth and then the RPMs just stay there and don't move so it feels a little weird... havent taken my car to the track yet to make sure "D" is faster then Manual mode but im thinking it is.... PLUS with manual mode it doesnt let you get the RPMs up as high and if you shift in manual mode then you're not getting your RPMs up high enough because if you try to get it up to redline in manual mode, it will shift on its own before it hits redline and then it takes forever shifting gears

No argument here. Just wanted to clarify so that others can help the OP, especially since mchedaddi's post misinterpreted the gist of the question.

i'm actually 50% Libyan and 50% American (but my mom lived in Libya for like 12 years and speaks perfect arabic) so i'm technically "African American" when i look white or Mexican lol i understand Libyan dialect, speak with an American accent, and i'm still learning how to read and write, inshallah soon ill be able to read and write and become more fluent. i want to go back and visit Libya soon, since it's no longer a "terrorlst country" lol now it's really booming.

I'll have to give it a try and see what i think. I know when you start in first gear with manual it's real sluggish and if you just go wot in "D" you kinda get a better punch. I haven't raced anyone yet because I swear everyone I run into seems to have a 350z and I'm always in the city.

Also seems like the manual mode doesn't take full advantage of the cvt engine where as if you just gun and the rpms get up and keep riding..................................................

lol everyone knows the 2.5 isn't as fast as the 3.5 but they are a lot faster then people think. on the 4th of july my mom traded in her 2005 Nissan Altima for a Maxima and i got my 3.5se A/C at the same time. my mom's 2005 2.5s hauled *** for a 4 banger. it was a 5 speed stick shift and i'd take it up to redline almost everyday and beat half the cars i came across. i've driven the 2.5 and the 3.5 and they're both pretty fast.... i just wish they had a 6 speed in stock when i got my car. i miss driving stick shift

I personally love the 4.. Of course I would love to have gotten the six but this altima is faster than my 97 ls integra stock. I put about 3,000 under the hood of that and easily kept up with v8's 0-60 and some in 1/4 so i'm excited to see where I can go with my altima.. What a narrow minded view some people have, hope that guy comes across the wrong 4 banger one day.. HAH!

i saw a 97 integra gsr with only cold air intake only whoop up a stock 08 2.5s cvt coupe. after about 20mph the integra pulled away cleanly. wasn't much of a race. 170hp a/c cvt won't beat alot of other 4 bangers. The honda civic si's and acura rsx's are faster.

my mom's 2005 2.5S was a stick shift and i'm pretty good at stick and i used to take integras and civics with it all day. didn't come across too many Si civics, mostly EX but ya. CVT isn't as fast as stick but its still pretty quick so i dunno. the idea of CVT should be faster then stick shift since it doesnt shift gears (like DSG is quicker then stick shift) but i don't know why CVT is slower then DSG and stick shift. maybe if CVT is tunned differently it could be just as fast as stick shift? i'm no mechanic but the idea of CVT should be quicker then stick. does anyone know why CVT is slower?

Haha, with a semester of Arabic under my belt, I managed to figure that one out too (and I'm Jewish nonetheless - so much for only Arabs being able to read it BourneAltimatum ). I have to admit, I haven't come across that many people who've taken Arabic (except the people in my class, obviously), much less Jewish people who take it.

To the OP:Throwing the car into M might sound a bit more satisfying, but I'm pretty sure the performance gains will amount to 0, if that. Although, like Hussain said, logically the CVT in "D" should be faster than any other transmission, so I don't get why the 6 speeds are faster either. I'm not doubting it, but it's just weird to me.

P.S. - This is my first post here. I joined after that other Nissan board experienced a little bit of downtime and have been lurking and searching through threads ever since. Great site!
