ok so i'm at 27,xxx miles and at 30,000 the CVT fluid needs to be changed. i know some members have done it themselves and i'd like their input... i've changed transmission fluid and filter on an Expedition before and it was really easy so i'm considering doing my altima coupes BUT i heard that a good amount of Murano owners with CVT had to have their transmissions replaced after the first fluid change and i'm concerned about changing my own fluid on my coupe because i dont want something to happen to the transmission shortly after and have Nissan try and void my warranty on my transmission.... i also heard the people who took it to the dealership for a fluid change paid like $400 or $500! my mom bought her 2007 Maxima CVT the same day as me so we'd change both cars CVT fluid at the same time and if we took them to the dealership, it would be $800-$1,000!

i still have a couple months before i change the fluid but seeing what members who have had their fluid changed and members who have changed it themselves feel.

hmmm, I cannot remember what the dealer quoted me at, I think it was only about 300 though. But I am only at 19k so I still have a while.

I damaged my transmission pan over the summer and had to replace it. My mechanic charged $250 for the new pan, gasket, fluid and labor and he offers a one year warranty on his work. Find a good mechanic....screw the dealer!

I can do it myself but i'm wondering how long the CVT transmission in our coupes will last because the murano guys were blowing transmissions a little past 30k miles and just dont want Nissan to b**** and try and say i did it myself and void the warranty or something... im leaning towards doing it myself... i remember a thread a long time ago saying something about a special fluid you need to get... does anyone know what kind of fluid, how much, and from where?

nope. saw something from a Nissan technician in the Maxima forums and he was saying how people destroy their CVT transmission by using regular transmission fluid...

DRAIN & REFILL CVT fluid at 30k...FLUSH at 60k...

ONLY USE NISSAN NS-2 Fluid (although I heard eneos makes their own CVT fluid)The cvt fluid is expensive, i think its like $15 a qt!

I think everyone is missing the point that it doesn't have to be done every 30k...

The Nissan tech's have the ability to hook the CVT up to a system and run a diagnostic on the fluid. From there, they can determine if it needs to be changed yet....
