Wondering if anyone has replaced their CVT fluid at the 60k mark? Speaking to another Nissan CVT owner (Murano). He says the change is pretty easy, but the fluid is $17 per quart and we need seven quarts! We do have a drain plug, which the Murano CVT does not.Just curious if anyone has racked up that mileage yet, or will I be the first to hit 60K? (probably about a 18 months from now)

Tried a search, but only came up with one Versa thread.

i honestly dont think the fluid needs to be changed until 100K but the choice ultimately belongs to the owner of the car. the fluid change IS easy, but costly.

I just depends how you drive it. I'm thinking of changing it every year now, like 30k/km.

I drove my '02 Acura RSX (Premium, Sport Shift) hard, waited like 90k/km...according to my cousin the ATF didn't look/smell right. I don't even want to think what would've happened if I followed the recommended 150k/km.

From past experiences, I've always taken the recommended interval (for serious but infrequent things such as this) and divided it by 2. My old car (Volvo) had a timing belt change requirement at 120k, so I did it at 60k. Just speaking from personal experience.

I'm pretty sure my book says 60k intervals for change, will have to re-check.

A search on the nico forums yielded one post where a Consult was used to analyze the fluid and replace when it scores a certain point value.

I emailed Courtesy to see what their cost is. This place had it for $15/quart:http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=3914

Has anyone had the dealer do this yet? If so, what procedure was used to determine the necessity and what was the cost?

Well, I read the FSM on the fluid change. It looks like the 2.5L motor (CVT REOF-10A) owners have a littler easier procedure, just pull the drain plug and refill. 8.3 qt capacity.

The 3.5 engine FSM procedure (CVT:REOF-09B) is more involved. It requires pullling a transmission line and draining/filling through the transmission fluid filter. I'd probably go to the dealer for that process.

Both require the "CVT fluid deterioration date" be changed via a Consult II. Both should also replace the drain plug gasket.

Wow, that FSM is very hard to sort through, but guess I'll get used to how it is laid out.

Response from Courtesy Nissan:>>

>>Dear Al Jones,

CVT fluid is $19.95 a quart, but you will need to buy it from your local dealer, since we can not ship oils.

i want to read where it says ANYTHING about using the consult-II or consult-III for anything regarding a transmission fluid change, or to check for transmission fluid condition, i am ALMOST POSITIVE that is not true what you guys are saying, but i could be wrong.

Hey, I'm just trying to learn something about this new vehicle - your expereinces would be great to hear. I read this in:Section TM - Page 412 of the online FSMCAUTION:• Use only Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2. Do not mix with other fluid.• Using CVT fluid other than Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2 will deteriorate in driveability and CVTdurability, and may damage the CVT, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.• When filling CVT fluid, take care not to scatter heat generating parts such as exhaust.• Sufficiently shake the container of CVT fluid before using.• Delete CVT fluid deterioration date with CONSULT-III after changing CVT fluid. Refer to TM-293,"CONSULT-III Function (TRANSMISSION)".

Deleting the date via the Consult would be unnecessary if you just changed the fluid at a specific mileage, right? So, skipping that part wouldn't have any consequences.

From TM-293. It looks like only a date is logged into the PCM? (or whatever Nissan calls it). I guess changing before this date could be premature, but for a DIY still probably very cost effective versus the change out at the dealership. Here is that excerpt:“CVTF DETERIORATION DATE”More than 210000 : It is necessary to change CVT fluid.Less than 210000 : It is not necessary to change CVT fluid.

What do you recommend for a mileage to change out at? I drive 99% highway miles, about 55k per year. (no racing, etc.)

I definitely appreciate your expertise and input!
