Just turned 30k mi on my '10 Altima 2.5 a few weeks ago. From advice on this forum, and impression that fluid in CVT seems under more 'stress' than in traditional transmission, asked my dealer (excellent rep, BTW) to do CVT fluid change (on my dime-not part of any prepaid maint plan). BOTH service advisors on duty that AM told me no-"that's not recommended until 100k miles unless you tow regularly". I've never towed anything with the car, and not sure any FD mid-size sedan makes the best tow vehicle anyway. I know the OM states fluid change is not due until 100k, but would changing at 30k hurt anything? I've never had any dealer turn down business before

They probably gave you that standard type of response because the Pathfinder uses a CVT and offers a towing package.

It's not going to hurt anything at all to change your fluid - it just may not be worth the money. However - the fluid flush is costly for a CVT. If you prepaid for a maintenance plan, they're probably only going to stick to the book.

I can't remember if the owner's manual recommends anything earlier in the case of excessive city driving or harsher driving environments, etc. I didn't think anything came up for the CVT fluid before 36,000 miles at all.

Checked the owners' service info. CVT fluid check is reg maint, but replacement is only as indicated at most service intervals. Looks like CVT fluid change is indeed only "rec" at 30k mi IF towing, off road (in an Altima??), or using car top carrier (none apply in my case). CVT fluid change at 30k is "Premium Upgrade" service, not in service Schedule 1 nor Schedule 2. Looks like dealer is right & I'm GTG for a while longer.

What the dealer told you is correct....just inspect/change the CVT fluid at 60k miles. Changing the fluid beforehand is senseless for 99% of drivers.
