So, just curious...been researching axle manufacturers and found a couple promising ones...But I need to know something.....after lifting the R50 and stressing the half shafts, what is the ultimate point of failure?

I have no idea. The 3 that I've destroyed were all when I was stock & one of those times was b/c of mud, but I have no idea the actuall degree or point

the point of failure on my 96 pathy was the outer lip of the cup. When the front suspension is drooped all the way with out a sway bar the cv axle and those bearings or whatever will ride on the edge of the cup. Extending the cup or even simply getting a 1/2" or an 1" spacer between the cv and the diff will fix the problem.

So far in my black pathy ive put it to the limits up here and have no broken an axle yet..

So when you say a spacer between the diff and the cv, you're talking disassemble the joint, remove the race/bearings and place a spacer behind the race, on the diff side, but actually inside the cup? Guess that would work...maybe do the same on the hub side, just to eliminate the risk of mismatching weak points...And where are these 3" longer-than-stock half-shafts at? I checked Total Chaos, but they don't stock anything...are we talking Frontier/Xterra shafts? Same spline count/diameter? If that's all that's available, I'll just go with the 3" and give the rig a Baja look...could be worse...Actually, after inspecting the front end of this thing pretty thoroughly with a local 4x4 shop, a coilover conversion and A arm installation should be pretty straight forward...just gotta make a drop bracket for the steering and sway bar...and of course, the extended A arms and mounting stuff...and the frame sleeves. Should be a good time, but F-O-A (check them out, nice stuff, not too expensive) told me that I'd be waiting 2-3 weeks for coilover delivery, so I need to get my measurements right on pretty quick here so I can order them...not letting my truck sit for 3 weeks....

no im saying put a spacer between the back side of the CV and the back side of the diff. not inside the cv or anything.

Yeah but if the problem with the CV arises because the shaft hits the edge of the cup...putting a spacer between the CV and diff will take away part of what you gained by installing a 3" longer shaft...consequently making your angle even worse...in other words, shortening the distance between diff and hub increases the CV angle. Right?
