So as I was at the Base Tire and Oil place getting 4 brand new tires and an oil change, when the attendant came and got me and said I had a problem. It was my two CV boots, they were torn and needed replacing. Now on Base they arnt certified to do such work and they referred me to an auto shop. The auto shop said that I was going to need to get a New Axle along with my CV boots. Is this totally Necessary, and can anyone give me an estimate. My car is a 93 Infiniti Q45. it has roughly 113K miles on it. Now I honestly bought this car thinking it would only last me 1-2 years at the most, but was wondering if the CV boot was a huge deal, for only an E-2, it seems like a lot of money. Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Rear axle, I presume?

Torn boots are serious. It depends how long grime and water inundated the joint. If you have access to a lift and get your parts from Joe, shouldn't be too bad.

Front Axle actually. When we looked at it, it looked like it just happened, Clean as a whistle. I wonder if it just had happend, because sometimes when the windows are down and music off, I can hear the sound of something catching and releasing, and it speeds up when I speed up. With what I saw it seems like it could be both Boots, catching on its torn counterpart and releasing. I don't know though. I simply could be imagining things, because I am by Far NO car expert. Anyone in Denver area that could help me out with this??

Those would be your steering rack boots... parts are not expensive to replace-clean out joints well and hope rack isnt scored and leaking from prolonged exposure to abrasive debris from being open{torn,cracked boots}

Shoot your mechanic if he thinks it is front wheel drive.

Check steering links for play and replace if necessary when you do the boots. You will need an alignment.

Hook up with CCCPman.

Or shoot up with him! If he thinks tie rods are strong enough to turn wheels, then he's enjoying a very illegal substance - or just dumb as hell! In any case, he alerted you to the problem, so that's a good thing. They are easy to replace... the FSM goes into plenty of detail. The most costly part of replacing them is the front end alignment when you're done - assuming they haven't been torn too long and caused rack damage.

Good luck!

I'd be cool with driving my car to where ever you are at, for I don't have a lift or any of that stuff to work on my car. I would be much appreciative no matter what i'd have to go through* I just want my baby to run smooth and not worry about any little problems for like a month And not being a Mechanic is not a problem, you are way ahead of me by far for working on cars, and the fellow Infiniti guys say it shouldn't be to hard, so I would love to give it a shot! Let me know what you think* Thanks!
