Hey everyone, here's the story. About a month ago, i installed my SS brake lines. I installed the front 2 exactly the same, however, the passenger side somehow managed to move out a little and started to contact the boot(i figure that's what happened anyway). So now my front right CV boot is torn, and its a big tear. I'm sure the dealership up here will be able to figure out what happened, and if my friend who sold me the car can't get his service dept to fix it under warranty, i have a few a options, the first and most obvious being I change the damn thing myself. What I don't like about this option, (and I may be wrong) is that I read somewhere a long time ago that if you try to remove the half shaft from the transmission and don't do it properly, you can screw your transmission up. As I said, I don't know if this true or not. My other option (and question) is this. My buddy mentioned to me that there are "lace up" boots, they clamp at the ends, and you lace them and seal them up the center seam, thereby foregoing any necessity to mess with the axle at all. Does anyone know if these are safe/reliable, and if so, are there any that will fit? thanks for your help.

From what I have heard those two piece boots do work ... but I have no direct experience with them. As you said, they were created so that the axle does not have to be removed to replace the CV boot.

I would recommend that you check with a mechanic that you trust & see what his experience has been.

Good Luck.

Why did you install SS lines? Was there a problem with the stock lines?

Standard rubber lines: Multiple braking, brake fluid heats up immensely, rubber lines expand, braking now takes more time and distance to halt to a complete stop.

SS lines: Multiple braking, brake fluid heats up immensely, SS lines do not expand, which results in more consistent braking after braking.
