Ok, im guessing these are cv boots that need to be replaced. I went down to my local auto stores and they only had "rear outer" boots. these damn things are in the front. I searched the forums and found they were called half axles. The tech article on cv boots is confusing without pictures. Im getting confused on the whole, "fwd only have cv boots" thing.

1) Should i replace the whole axle or just the boot?

2) Any sounds i should be looking for? I dont hear any clicking or anything.

3) what is the name of the part i should look for to fix this?

It looks like its been like this for a while since i dont see any grease around the wheels. I bought the car a few weeks ago and noticed this right now!!! No hard driving since i bought it too!

that is NOT your axle, its called a Steering Arm, and what you need is Steering Arm Boots since both sides of your steering arm boots is riped. make sure you repack it with greese. it should come as a whole kit, might not though.

Your steering rack is fine if you dont have to fill up the power steering resivoar with atf every day. just use some brakleen and make everything look shiny before slipping on the new boots.

since you have to unscrew the tie rod out from the back of the tie rod ends anyway, Inspect the ends too. make sure the ball joints dont have any play and that their boots look good. you might want to use some whiteout and make a couple marks so you know your alignment isn't messed up when you put it back together.
