So the front of my 86 4wd 720 clicks pretty badly in 4wd because the boots have been broken for who knows how long (the way I bought it).
I've been scouring the parts stores, and none of them can get front cv axles.I did find one site where they had them for 300 a piece, but I at first dismissed it on the count of it being expensive, and I'm not sure if it's the right part.So I called the dealers, and they want 700 per axle! I about died! So I called a local place that rebuilds them, and they don't do foreign axles because they can't get parts for them. I may have to go back to that one site and investigate more.
Has anyone else ever replaced axles on these things? Any places to visit or advice?

Nice! The only other thing I could think of is if another model fit them of which were more abundant. But nice find!

Just for anyone who needs future help and does a search on cv axles, A1 Cardone is the only manufacturer of rebuilt cv axles for the 720. Auto part stores don't really carry any. Napa had only 1 side. Online is the best bet. You can go to the a1 cardone site and look up the axle, and it has a list of vendors that sell it. Part numbers are 60-6025 for passenger, and 60-6018 for driver. Cheapest I found was from theautopartsshop.com, with each axle for about $55, and 75 core. RockAuto was a bit cheaper, but it was a send in and rebuild only program, where you send yours in and they rebuild it and send it back.

EDIT: Received e-mail from theautopartsshop, and they don't have them in stock. Go figure. The search continues.
