so ive been stuck with an engine that i got and replaced all gaskets and oil pump manifold sealed off all the egr stuff swapped manifolds and now it all came down to this pilot bearing!! so the end of the cranks look completely diff which threw me off gaurd as well as the new pilot bearing that came with the exedy clutch looked smaller than the one that was on the engine that came from an automatic car. so my delima or however you spell it is that i dont wanna junk or sell this motor after waiting so long to get the car back running, a guy at a perfromance ship said i can just cut that bearing and make sure it is smoothly cut and the only thing i will get is vibrations......this sounds skepticle but im willing to try it......anyone with any input on what i can do to save this project?

I used a pipe wrench to remove mine. A pipe wrench and a big hammer to hit the wrench with. It came out fairly easy.DO NOT leave it in there and I would not reccoment cutting it. It isnt that hard to remove it. Just do it right.

Blind hole puller and slid hammer, it will take less than 5 min. You can rent them at autozone.

USE THE BLIND HOLE PULLER! the actual pilot bearing puller sucks and any other method usually results in hours of attempts.

Blind hole puller had it out in under 5 minutes. no joke.

go rent one of those from autozone (140 I think) and if that doesnt work, then try all the other stuff. Im pretty sure it will work for you.

When I got my automatic DOHC, it didnt come with a pilot bearing. It came with an automatic adapter which yeah, looked way different and didnt even go in the crank all that much. are you sure its not that?

you can leave the auto pilot bearing on there it doesn't interfere with anything, I've never went through the trouble to take it off, I just put the manual bushing inside the crank and left it at that

Take out the auto bushing out and put in one for a manual, the input shaft front bearing will thank you. The manual one will also go in much eaiser and reduce the risk of destroying the bushing.(it is made out of a soft metal after all)

And the reason the pilot bearing puller doesn't work is it is made to pull a bearing made out of hard steel not a bushing made out of a much softer metal.
