Cutting off Running rich..

Hey guys I was looking around to see if I can find a thread about this but couldn't. Maybe I over looked it...

My car just started acting up today.. See wat happend was... I was driving home from work today and every time I would shift I would hear a loud back fire "like a gun shot". So I pulled over after like 30 minutes of driving to see if a wire was loose or something but everything looked fine.. Now on the side of the road 5 minutes after leaving the car at idle it started to sputter and it wanted to shut off. Well it finnally did so I went back in to the car to crank it back up and it was Idling rough. So I keept feathering the gas and it was just throwing out black smoke and it was smelling rich... and it started to idle at like 1300 rpm and slowing started going back down to 800... I was wondering if anyone can tell me whats wrong or give me a link to where I can troubleshoot my prob. Well I would appreciate any help giving.. THANKS

mass-air flow sensor... maybe?

Ive had the same problem, it really sounds like a bad injector, yuo might want to take them out and clean them real good, or clean your MAFS throttle body, thats about the only other things i can think of... but i had the same exact problem as you if you figure it out let me know what you did...

well if ya do your injectors again.. make sure they don't even leak and make sure you lube them back up with some vassoilne..

also check your coolant temp sensor and the wire leading to it

I'd hazard a guess at MAFS or boost leak.

I really appreciate it... bout to check it out tonite when I get off work. I think its the temp sensor. Had a similar prob with my sentra.. but I'll check out injectors and MAF thx yall I'll let yall know wats up.. thx again

Well... I changed my MAFS and still no better.. now the car is starting to studder untill about 3000 rpm... I changed everything from plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump... still studdering bad... and running rich as hell.

I was wondering if one of the injectors could be messed up... could it be running rich because of that?

So u changed the MAFS, did u check the coolant temp sensor and/or its connection at all? Seriously, that would cause it to run rich once warmed up and sputter and blow black smoke, et al.

Check your timing?

Edit: Oh, you probably set your timing properly when you did the cap and rotor, right?

How bout the o2 sensor? I had some similar issues around 120k mi. I changed both the maf and the 02 sensor and the problem was solved.

Well I found out the problem... The fuel rail was bent.. and air was getting in... from the ingector... well I replaced the fuel rail and boom no problem at all... so check for leaks every where... thx for all the help guys
