i got my 1993 300zx n/a today and so i have been cruisin all day. but something was worrying me, when i would hit 6000 rpm, my engine would "die" and then start again. but when i looked my rpm's didnt drop, but i could hear and feel the car "die" for a little bit. what could this be, or is it normal cuz my bro's saturn does the same thing? thanks.

may be just the limiter. what gear were you in and how fast were you going? It may be the cam position sensor connecotr or trig connectors on the from of the timing cover. with the car idling try moving the cam sensor connector toward the front of the car or back toward the engine. that connector is on the drivers side of the engine in front. caution thou the fan is right there. if the car dies you need to tighten those connector pins by bending them in slightly with a scribe.

it almost always happened from the 2-3 and 3-4 shift (dont know bout the 4-5 shift, never went speeding that fast yet). and it sometimes happens between the 1-2 shift. i dont know the speeds because i never really look at the speedometer when i am going to or clost to redline.

so should i shift when i hit the limiter or should i let it go to redline and shift at redline? this is my first manual, but i have driven my bros 5 speed so i am used to it, but now i want to get more in depth with it. thanks again.

not 100% sure here that it is your limiter. with out driving it and experiancing it myself its hard to be sure thats what your talking about but yes you should be able to make it to redline with out hitting the limiter and at redline you should definitly shift. Are you passing redline when it happens?

oh crap, now i feel sorry for my baby. i think i was hitting redline and when i felt the car slow down i looked at the tach and it went back down to 6k before i could see it. i only did it a couple times, i am going to cry now.
