I had a problem with my antenna cable, too. I was able to solder on an end to fit into the radio, but I found pieces of wire under the carpet and seats that I couldn't find what they were for. I just pulled them out as they were cut on the ends. I would trace them out and see where they go. Use the one that goes all the way to the antenna. If you don't have one, order one that's the right length from the auto parts store and put it in.

The upper picture doesn't look to be antena cable. It looks more like speaker cable (or "ZIP Line to some).

Antenna cable is generaly a Coax type cable like that shown in the second picture. The inner wire is for the signal and the outer wire keeps the nose from interfering with the signal.

Coax cable also is made to special standards as to impeadance etc. Although possable to splice it is not recomended even for experianced technicians. Purchase a replacement cable and install it. If it is too long just coil the extra out of the way. It is best not to cut it unless you are experianced.

the second one is indeed the antenna wire. Most aftermarket antennas require you to cut the original wire anyways.

Actually to clear this up.....The factory antenna wire is 2 separate wires, the AM antenna is built into the back windshield and uses the smaller wire, the other wire actually comes from the antenna. How do i know.... i shaved my antenna and pulled all the wiring out.

And to tell you the truth trying to splice shielded wire is a *****.You have to solder the interior wire, then wrap it, then wrap that in the outside shielding braid and make sure that's all solid. then wrap the whole mess again. So your best off probably just running new wire.
