I like the style of the rims but they are ugly in the factory color, every car on the road has silver wheels. They do not add to the overall appearance, they take away from it in that color. Once I painted them gunmetal, they really added to my car. I've gotten lots of compliments on them too. Also the OEM wheels are designed to be mild as to not turn away buyers not into the aftermarket scene, which is most buyers.Magellan wrote:I agree that there’s no need to buy new rims. But why do anything to them? I’m sure these OEM rims were designed by professional design engineers to enhance the overall appearance of the car with many possibilities considered before selecting the final version that was picked to assure they do that. I would love hear the groans if one of their group said, “Hey, I’ve got an idea---Let’s paint them black!
Well you’re certainly justified in doing anything (legal) to your car that you want. Like I said before, taste is a personal trait. But to me, black or gunmetal rims remind me of that build up of brake dust on my old G35 coupe's rims when I didn’t have time to wash it off each week. Now that’s ugly. But to each his own. Thank goodness our G37’s (or whatever you’re calling yours these days) do not have that problem.CYO44Baseball32 wrote:

Big difference between brake dust and black or gunmetal rims, with brake dust that ugly silver still shows through making the car look dirty. G37S still do get brake dust build up too which needs to be washed off constantly.Magellan wrote:Well you’re certainly justified in doing anything (legal) to your car that you want. And you may be surprised that most buyers, certainly those with upscale autos, do not bother with aftermarket rims. That’s more prevalent on this and other car forums, which may not represent mainstream of car owners in America.
I see it differently. Some young people go nuts with tasteless mods, including unnecessary rim changes, because they have low self esteem and are desperately looking to be noticed through their cars. Sadly, it doesn’t work.CYO44Baseball32 wrote:Actually yes I see plenty of upscale autos with aftermarket rims. Though the main people you see owning upscale autos without rims are old people who are trying to re-live their youth and people with large incomes who buy expensive cars just to say they can afford it.
Sadly some old guys need their car to replace certain other things that don't work right any more.Magellan wrote:I see it differently. Perhaps you’re right, but when you reach my age you too may define “getting it up” as hoisting your car on jack stands.CYO44Baseball32 wrote:

Well good for you I'm glad your still in good enough health to work on your car, shouldn't everyone be so fortunate.Magellan wrote:Perhaps you’re right, but when you reach my age you too may define “getting it up” as hoisting your car on jack stands.
You still fail to get my point. I don’t hate anyone who mods their car, in fact I think some mods can be appropriate. But I do criticize illegal mods that are dangerous to other people and where the modder is saying “screw you” to the law and the rest of us.CYO44Baseball32 wrote:

Also you hate on everyone who mods their car as a wasted attempt to draw attention to themselves. A persons car is an expression of themselves. An artist uses a canvas just as someone uses mods for their car. I'm sure this is how successful tuning business have gotten started, all from someone dreaming what to do next to their car.
All I have to say is WOW You completely miss my point too. Insecurity is deff not the reason to mod a car. By posting picture of what you have done gives ideas to others for their cars.Magellan wrote:You still fail to get my point. I also find some mods as downright silly, like additions that add power so you can go 120 mph or 0-60 in 4 seconds. Unless you’re going to a track or drag strip, what’s the purpose? Isn’t 330hp enough for public roads? I also believe that the practice of multiple posting pixs with these mods, in addition to apparent post whoring, gives the appearance that the poster is shouting, “Hey everybody, look at me!” This is where the self-esteem issue comes in.As far as doing mods that I think are plain ugly, I just laugh; the same way I do with people who pierce their face/nose/lips/eyebrows/ears. This is the ultimate call for recognition from those who feel insignificant.
At any rate, chalk it up to my age. It’s just another viewpoint from a senior citizen. And Remember, us older folk can improve our health through medications like Viagra, but I don’t believe there’s a pill yet for insecurity.
Have you tried tirerack.com? You can play with pics of your car and swap rims on it there. Also, take a swing by the G35 forum and check out the Members Rides there. Although no identical, our cars are similar. Some Members have some sweet looking rims in there!Meltdownblitz wrote:Ok so now back to my topic. I want to put chrome rims on my car, and my point to post this topic was to see what other people have put on their car to get an idea of what would look nice. I like the OEM rims but as CYO44Baseball32 said, they look to "common." I want to put Chrome on as it will stand my car out a little more. So does anyone have any pictures or oppinions on Chrome rims? I kind of want to dip my stock rims in chrome professionally but I don't know where this can be done in Las Vegas. Any ideas?
Cheap and quality seldom go together.CYO44Baseball32 wrote:Look on ebay if you are looking for some aftermarket wheels, usually can find some good stuff for cheap prices. As for chroming out the stocks, I saw those on ebay too. You trade your stock for a set of chromed out stock, think its like $650 dollars for a set.
chuckyl wrote:I just got a good deal with LA wheels in CA. They have a exchange program where they send you a chrome set of the stock 19" wheels. You have those mounted and balanced and return your wheels in good condition. You have to pay for shipping both ways, in my case it was $250.00 I live in TX. They also hold $2,200 until they receive your wheels. Sounds like a lot but my total out of pocket is about $1,175. Not bad for a set of good quality chrome wheels. Iam extremely happy with mine and they look great!! No problems at all so far. I'm returning mine Sat. If I have any problems I'll let you know immediatily. I don't have their Email address but here's a phone contact 1-800-584-2832. hope this helps if it's not to late. Also I got in on a deal on e-bay I don't know what the prices are now. One other thing the TPMS is no problem at all just make sure they don,t damage the senors when they remove them from your wheels to the new ones. I had them put the senors back in the same position they came out of , no warning lights after my install. Good luck.
