i just put chrome 18" custome wheels and tires on my new '05 yellow 350z. now sometimes the "slip" lite (next to gear indicator lite) flashes and i lose power for a second. the tires are staggered sizes, 225/45zr18 front, and 245/40zr18 rear. i also did not remove the pressure sensors from inside old tires/rims and just put new ones on as they came. advice?

hmmmmm? some models came with staggered sizes didn't they? I'd think that would not be an issue?

Check the stock size tires for height or tire diameter. Along with that there is information out ther about aftermarket tire sizes. stock front tires are 225/45/18 tire height 25.9 in. Rear are 245/45/18. height 26.5in. The rear tire diameter is probably the problem. The tire revs are faster because of the smaller diameter tire.

Yes... I beleive it is your rear tire that is the wrong diameter. It should be 245/45 18s just like ^ mentioned. The only reason the other Z's run a lower profile rear is when they up their rear tire size like the 07 GT they run 245/40 18's upfront and 265/35 19's in the back. Hope your tire dealer has a good return policy.

The 350Z runs staggered width and diameter on the tires. The width is not important, but the diameter is. For a given amount of front tire revolution, the rear tires should have completed a certain number of revolutions. As the OE tire diameters are not equal, the number of front tire revolutions and number of rear tire revolutions will not be the same. when picking wheels and tires, you need to place some attention on this to make sure that you don't deviate too much from the front to rear tire revolution ratio. I've not seen any hard data on what range is acceptable, but I'd keep it as close to stock as possible as you could potentially choose a combo that works fine new, but end up having issues if one pair wears faster than the others.

Choosing tire sizes is as simple as comparing the stock tire diameters (perhaps divide the front tire diameter by the rear tire diameter) and choosing front and rear sizes that have a very close match in ratio (the closer the better).

The tire in the front has to be 0.7"~0.9" shorter (height wise) then the rear, otherwise it will trigger bad episodes of VDC action. If you dont know what that is, its a form of a traction control device that monitors front and rear wheel speeds. If you put a tire too short in the back or too big it will cause your car to buck and lose power as the computer will think you are experiencing unexpected wheel spin.

tires1010.com or 1010tires.com i cant remember theres a tire size calculator there. tap in the stock sizes and the new sizes. the calculator will give you the specs and perimeter variance. 3% is the max for the 350z i think

Very bad choice on your tire sizes...Sorry, it looks like you did not do enough research, that being said....your problem is the TPMS, Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors. You should of taken the ones you had on your OEM wheels & placed them on the identical wheel side replacement. In other words, RF wheel to RF wheel, RR wheel to RR wheel. Now since your old wheels are all mixed up....remove the sensors from your old wheels and bring them in to the dealer to be re-programed. The light should not go on unless your low on tire pressure.

Sluggo, would'nt that make the tire pressure light come on, not the slip light?

^ you are right. It is not the TPMS at fault its the rear tire size. Basically you have to change either your front or rear tire. you have to have thesame profile like 45 or 40 series, you cant mix those up on wheels that have thesame diameter. The 07+ GTs have a lower profile on back to offset the backs extra inch in wheel height.

Yeah...I was ahead of myself...I was referring to the tire pressure indicator light on the dash.

the back needs to be 45 series just like the front. If you switch to the 35 in the back it will be thesame problem.

He is running 18s in front and back, the only time you would switch to a 35 series is if it was 18 and 19 on the car.
