hey guys, I havent posted in awhile but I got a small project going on. Instead of paying 5Gs for the artisan turbo kit I was thinking of going custom and my custom headers project FAILED miserably. My dad's friend almost blew my dam motor, -_-. Anyways, for all you turbo fanatics out there im attempting a custom turbo project. My cousin owns a Twin Turbo S2K and he bought a smaller turbo from some site but he decided he didnt need it anymore so now hes trying to sell it to me. The thing is im not sure if it'll fit. Could you guys help me out? The turbo is a . Garrett Dual Ball Bearing GT3071R Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are a half a dozen variations of that turbo. Find you what exact type it is, then get back to us.

Here is the manufacturer's page on the GT3071R. The turbo would fit, but there are several models of the GT3071R and a lot of turbine and compressor housing options. You should find out exactly what turbo it is your cousin has to decide whether it meets your requirements or not.

who are you going to have design your custom turbo system? you sound like your under the impression that it's easy do design and install a working/reliable turbo system on the 3.5altima. there's a lot more to it than bending a charge pipe and slapping on a turbo, intercooler, wastegate, and bov. the fitment of any kit on this car is SUPER tight and compact as hell and will take a lot of trial and error. If you want a turbo i recommend you only let a very experienced person install a kit that has been tested and shown to be reliable.

im actually having my cousin help me out with this one. he has a good amount of knowledge when it comes to the VQ motors and turbo. He used to own a 350Z and he did a custom single turbo kit for his and pushed out 13psi so we'll see how things go with my car.

Much much more room in the 350 motor than the FWD VQ's Good luck though. I can only imagine whats gonna happen with you motor after a custom built system, considering you almost grenaded it with a header prototype

hmm well after having a meeting with my cousin and seeing the turbo for myself, I'm pretty sure it'll fit. With the limited space of the VQ engine, im planning to do a remote mount (where the turbo is mounted behind my rear bumper or near the muffler) and see how that goes, the turbo wont be as efficient as having it under the hood but we'll give this a shot. The hard part is fabricating a manifold...-_- any updates I'll let you guys know.

listen just because you have a turbo kit on your car that was manufactured to be marketed, does not mean that a custom kit cannot be made, and maybe even better and more efficient than the ones that are released at this moment. if the guy wants to go out and get a kit custom made, he should make sure that he knows the person is reliable. and to be honest he can also get the kit made the way that he wants it. OP i say you go ahead and get the kit custom made, just take note ahead of time that you will have probably massive downtime, and probably be out of a car anywhere from 1-2 months, maybe even more.

now to the size of the turbo...a GT30R should definately squeeze into the engine bay, it should be much bigger than the turbos offered with the current kits that are available right now. the main differences on the GT30 family turbo are the guts, and depending on the condition of your motor, and the size of the turbo you should be able to push 8-11lbs of boost safely, and make probably 350whp maybe even more...not too bad

IMO i think a GT30R would be a great choice for the altima V6, but if you want to go all out, then i would have another choice for you, but i dont think the altima market is ready for that yet!

Back in my Honda days, instead of spending a lot of money on a kit and we used to just peice our own kits together. Custom fabing is gonna cost u an arm and a leg. Peicing your own kit will save you more money and a lot of people prefer doing this. Reason is because you'll be able to get what you want. Some kits out there will only give you so much. But remember though, the more you want, the more it'll cost you. Only thing you might have to do is weld a few things here and there. Also running 8-11 psi isnt too good on stock internals. Id stay on the safe side and run 5-6 psi maybe 7 at the most but thats it. Good choice on the turbo though, ball bearing turbochargers spool much faster and better but damn it costs a lot. If youre trying to go turbo, you best do a lot of research. Just remember though, picking your fuel management is the most important thing. I'd give you some links that'll teach you a lot about custom fabing or peicing your own kit together but I cant post links. The people there will answer any questions you have on where to start too.
