So heres the deal, I have decided to start posting some things that you can do to your interior to make it look clean and custom.
Seats:
Simple upgrades for seats are swapping in the S14 seats in your S13. Its simple, out with the old and in with the new. The seatbelt connector is different so just undo the seatbelts from the S13 and put them on the S14s and you got your self a nice simple upgrade.
Facts about S14 seats: -Sits you about 1/4"- 1/2" higher-Wider than the S13 seats-Just as much bolster as s13s-Updated refreshing look-Adjustable lumbar support for driver-Removable headrest (makes it much easier to recover)
Things to look out for:
-Seat will be much closer to the center consule and door-Hard to reach hatch/ gas door lever-Floor mounted seatbelt gets in the way of the back adjustment-Seatbelt plug (easy fix if you have your s13 seatbelts)
Door Panels:
There are many things you can do to door panels to make them stand out from the rest.
Reupholstering:A good way to do this is to take off the old stuff and simply cut a new piece and insert it into the old locarion using a rolling wheel to press it into the channel. If you dont have one you can use something else that will fit in like possibly a flatblade screwdriver. I recomend using a good spray adhesive, Im sure 3m makes one you can get at any craft story. If you see that your insert is coming out after time you could use small dabs of superglue to hold it in place.
Black Vynal Finish:If you remove your old fabrick there is black vynal that your doorpanels are made out of. Takeing the fabrick off will allow you to have just a black vynal finish that looks clean and simple. Its much more affordable than reupholstering. One thing to watch out for is that they fabric is stuck on there really good and it wont want to come undone. When I took mine off I went around the outside of the insert with a flat blade to bring up the fabric and then started pulling. It will be tough but if you can get it all off it will look nice.
Interior Trim Pieces:
Another big thing that you can to do help out your interior is to redo some of the trim pieces. I dont recomend doing them in yellow or other bright colors just because it gets anoying but if you want to you can.
Heres how I go about doing trim pieces.
Painting:There are two different paints that I would suggest. One is duplicolor car accessories paint and the other is they duplicolor vynal spray.
I painted my radio trim piece and some of the center console silver with the duplicor paint. To prep it I used a modest 300 grit sandpaper as to not leave sandscratches deep in the plastic but to still provide GREAT adhesion.
You can use fine or more coarse sand paper but I wouldnt recomend going below 180 because of deep sand scratches that can occure.
I simply sprayed 3-4 coats of paint, the first of witch being a light tack coat.
The other way to paint your interior trim pieces it to use the Vynal Paint. It seems to adhear to softer vynals and fabricks much better than the harder plastics.
Again, I sprayed these just like I did the other paint but instead of sanding I washed EXTREMELY WELL with soap and water. I didnt sand because this was going to be on textured items that I wanted to keep the textured look.
One thing to look out for is if the part is in a area that will be kicked to rubbed agains frequently it will mostlikely ware away the paint. I wouldnt use paint on kickpanelys or center consoles/ armrests.
Thats it for now and I will update soon with pics of my interior pieces that I have done.
