Hey guys, seen some manifold down here in South FL.made custom for KA-Ts. I read somewhere it is good to have the manifold sort of angled, each runner a little shorter then the previous, so the last runner is shorter then the first for better boost distribution. Is that true.

Also I hea the long the intake runers the better for torque? Will that help Lag too?

I think what you are referring to is the plenum not the runners. Usually runners are the same length and the plenum is angled, slopled downward at the runner farthest from the throttle body. This is said to help give equal distribution to each cylinder. Long intake runners help low end power, short is for top end power. Not exactly sure how this affects lag.

I know that Greddy makes an intake plenum for the SR series, but I don't know if they make one for the KA series.

i was interested in this topic too, as my friends DOHC neon is in the planning of modding the intake manny, they have long runners

im think WD asnwered this a couple weeks ago, but forgot which thread it was in, he was talking about leaving the runners because he wants the mid-range torque

I believe I was saying I like the stock manifold on the KA because of the excellent torque curve it helps to produce. They just need to be ported along with the head to allow for better breathing once a turbo is installed.

Or if I said I was switching to a custom intake, I would also keep the long runners. Shorter runners will increase your "Q" and hp at higher rpms. The KA is a low revving motor that will benefit greater,IMHO, from low end torque.

6600-7000rpm is not low revving in my book... but yeah I would just port the stock manifold, maybe extrude hone it, so you keep the nice torque curve(or some of it..) that everyone loves about the KA, but allow more flow potential for turbo's, nitrous etc.

I would Extrude hone everything and get everything in the chambers coated with Swain's thermo coat. Head, valves and piston crowns.
