There has been alot of talk about injectors in the threads lately, so i figured i would throw this question out there.I learned this from an old sadies mechanic, it was his specil mix for cleaning intectors. For a 10 Gallon tank:-10 gall of Premium-1/2 quart of Paint thinner-1/2 quart of ATF

I know it sounds crazy, but i used it in my Civic (Built, High compression LS Swap) And WOW did it make a differience!!!!!!!!!!

Now i know that an Acura motor and a Nissan motor are not even in the same league. THis guy was using this combo regulary on cars that came into the sadies dealership.

What do you think?I havent used it on my q's yet cuz i want more input. But the paint thinner cleans off the crap and the ATF lubricates all of the seals and O-ring, Ect.. Makes sence. but what are the other angles to this?

The adding of ethanol to gasoline effectively renoves all the old varnish in gasoline BUT the water in the ethanol causes corrosion.

Injectors fail from the plastic body swelling from contact with ethanol. They were never designed to work with 10% ethanol just 3% MTBE [also an alcohol].

Removing ethanol and water from gasoline will solve the problem but then you will need amine detergents to substitute for ethanol.http://www.greencarcongress.co....html

When you say ethanol, are you talking about the paint thinner?

Might want to review the MSA for the BG injector cleaner.

I would just stick with the proven methods our members have posted about previously.

There is no scientific research say ATF mix with gasolene actually help clean injectors, this is just an idea of a mechanic have nothing to do with his civic and we all know how good that 4 bangers can handle owner abuse.Be smart buy the real injector cleaner. A good mechanic know how to fix his cars so it can last lifetime not in short run then cost big bucks replace everything.
Glad to see im making a stir on the forums. HAHA This is how good ideas are created and or proven otherwise.First, The Guy i learned it from was not a 4 bang ricer, he was a retired Mercedes Tech for 30+ years. He used this on HIS Sadies for 20+ of those years. He never had any injector failures, issues, or mechanical failure due to this mix. Second, the ATF "supposedly" helps lubricate all of the seals that the Thinner might dry out and that the gas DOES dry out over time. IT is not a cleaner.I wont come crying to ask for help, i have done VH injectors before, and if i have to do them again due to my mistakes, then so be it.Im a big boy, i take responsibility for my own actions.

And HEY, we wouldnt have found america if some idoit did jump on a boat and sail into the unknown,Right?

Welcome to NICO again Troy7979. Your post got deleted before I got to read it in it's entirety. You must have said something offensive at the end again. Too bad Troy, it sounds like you're pretty sharp. Get rid of a sentence or two in your posts and you could be a real contributor.

So Ben- is the 5% solution you're mixing cleaning the injectors or just giving you a lot of extra power while you're burning that tank of fuel? Did the engine run warmer? BG cleaner makes you feel like you're driving a race car- Lots of extra power.

No offense to your brew but I'll stick with an $8 bottle of Redline Injector Cleaner (vs. a $20 can of BG cleaner) to a half tank of gas every couple months.

i used to use BG all the time, and i havent used in a couple years now (forgot).. I think once a year is good enough to use for most fuel injector cleaners..

If only there was a filter or something that we could put inline of our fuel filter to trap ethanol...

BG44k twice a year for the last 8 years but switched to Redline SI-1 this year. All cars have original injectors (and hopefully stay that way for a long time).
