So I was talking to this one guy who custom fabbed his stock manifold (VW Jetta 1.8T)

This is how his set up turned out. Though he did say his set up was poor because it cracked at the seams due to all the weight.

So it got me thinking of trying something like this, but with support brackets bracing the turbo to the side of the strut tower.

Or putting a T2 flange on a 3" long piece of exhaust piping and a T3 flange on the other end an attaching the turbo to it. Kinda like and extension of the stock mani. That would place the turbo lower. But then it might come in contact with the motor mount. Unless you try to aim it away a bit. Then somewhere between the 2 flanges have another piece of piping running to an external wastegate.

Im just thinking crazy right now, but I would like to see peoples opinion on this.

i had the sme thought, one T25 flange a 2.5" pipe 4" long with a T3 flange on the other side, with a port on the 2.5" x 4" pipe with the wastegate port and flange added to it. it would place the turbo lower and there may be some clearance issues with the mount and in you LHD guys the steering shaft.

but then i found that they make these adaptors form billet steel so i could just buy it, apparently the MR2 buys use them for their CT6 turbos or whatever to adapt to a T3 w/ external gate/

then i reasiled that the GT25R will bolt up perfectly with my OE manifold,

if i can only sell teh dam T3/T04E & deltagate. i hate window shoppers.

wow.. its amazing what one would go thru to get boost. Almost like a drug, eh.I know someone who made a simple "U" and turbo'd an SE-R using a ford junkyard 2.3 turbo, years ago. Despite good advice, he ran only a fuel pressure regulator, no timing. Of course, he cracked his pistons, but for a short time the car would smoke the whole of 2nd and most of 3rd gear. Yeah, cars usually perform great, just before they blowup.

I wouldn't brace anything to the strut towers, gotta be to the motor or it'll probably crack just on crankover.

With all the turbo craze nowadays, must be able to find someone locally making decent manifolds for $4-500. We do around here

a common thing on datsun 510 sr and ca swaps is to make a j-pipe off of the stock manifold, putting the turbo in a sort of top mount postition, then you have to make a custom dump pipe.

just to describe, the hook of the "j" goes to the manifold, then the turbo would go where the dot is at the top of the "j"
