Custom eXhaust

wsup everyone, i was just wondering, anyone ever try to make their own custom exhaust?? or even better, just imitate an aftermarket one?? i mean, there are basically 3 parts; the piping, the cat and the muffler, what if u made the same piping, used the stock cat and bought a muffler, would results be similar???

THATS WHAT I GOT.. I BOUGHT A MAGNAFLOW MUFFLER(100$), 2.25" MANDEL PIPING FROM THE MUFFLER TO THE CAT(50$), TEST PIPE(50$) AND AFTER I GET MY HEADERS NEXT MONTH IM GOING TO HAVE THEM CUSTOM MAKE ANOTHER 2.25" MID AND DOWN PIPE.. SO FAR I SPENT 200$ AND LOOKS GOOD AND SOUNDS VERY NICE..JUST GO TO A MUFFLER SHOP ASK THEM HOW MUCH THEY WILL CHARGE U TO PUT ON A MUFFLER AND 2.25" PIPING TO THE CAT.. AND THEY WILL TELL U A KINDA HIGH PRICE.. AND JUST TELL THEM OH NEVERMIND THEN.. AND SAY THAT THE OTHER MUFFLER PLACE DOWN THE ROAD SAID THEY WILL DO IT FOR 50BUCKS TO INSTALL THE MUFFLER AND PIPING.. AND START WALKING,. MOST OF THE TIME THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR MIND REAL QUICK AND DO IT FOR U-=) JOE

Did you computer also lose the ability to type and 'S', forcing you to resort to the oh-so classy 'Z'?I'd suggest calling local exhaust shops, and see if any of them do mandral bends in the size you want, and supply your own muffler.My friend had a shop do a 3" Mandral for his turbo se-r for only $110, but he brought his own muffler.Make sure you dont get crush bent.

Personally, ill pay a little extra for someone else to go through the trial and error of designing a system. Its much less of a headache, and so much easier. I also have always though most common exhaust shops didnt have mandrel benders, dont they cost a fortune?

true mandrel bending machines cost upwards of $30k+, so most shops do NOT have them, but a good exhaust shop can bend a pipe without "crush" bends, where the pipe gets reduced(too much) when bending. personally, unless you've got a muffler that you REALLY LIKE, I'd just get a cat-back exhaust system and be done with it, less bends, and the design is done for you.
