over the holiday i was able to put together my own exhaust. basically i wanted to lose weight and have it more free flowing. i started with a h.s. header. i welded quarters into the egr and aiv bungs. fit really nice. used dei header wraps. ran out of material to finish but eventually may wrap it all the way to the tip. next i sourced a carsound/magnaflow cat to improve "legal" flow. and used a single dynomax 12" muffler. pipe size is 2.5 all the way with mandrel bends where necessary. in order to lose some weight and halp locate that weight between the wheel base i routed the exhaust to exit in front of the passenger side rear wheel. was a little tricky because of the rear subframe locating bracket as i wanted the bend from the cat to the exit to be a little shallower.

however it turned out a little louder than i wanted. i knew it would be louder, just not this bad. so i may end up changing it around after while.

it sure is fun going past people at w.o.t as the sound bounces off their car. hehehaha

wow. looks good man, good job on the originality. were you thinking of putting in a resonator, or re-doing the whole system?-Enzo

posted more pics here

i was thinking of just adding another of the same type of muffler. i'm running into difficulty finding resonators in 2.5 size that are perforated and not louvered.

I'm sorry to go off topic, but how are those Falken Azenis Sports treating you? I was thinking of getting a set but haven't heard any real comments about them.

azenis rock man. beats having to change tires for an a/x as well. they can be a little worrisome when they start to go bald in the rain.

Did you make your own intake manifold? If so, could you post instructions, as that sounds like a really awesome thing to do!

great work man! what is your welding setup? i am very interested in learning and purchasing a welder to do jobs like exhaust and intercooler piping. any tips to starting or reccomendations on a household welder than can acomplish exhaust, intercooler piping, brackets, and exhaust manifold. thanks alot. it would be nice to hear from someone that actually does it themselves! i am looking in the 300-400 price range and preferably a wire-feed that has mig capacities but i plan to elarn on flux-core before going gas. thanks again man and great work.

more info on the IM fab too.

audio!!! we need to hear it roar!!!

also, it looks hella sweet. I totally wanna do this now. Although I probably won't.

I think, if I did it, I'd put some cool looking tip on it that sticks out about a half inch from the body or something. That's just me though.

i used a lincoln electric 120 volt welder. i think its the 135 plus. it is wire feed and will weld thin gauge steel, stainless and with a few extra bits alum. cost with tank of c25 gas was about 750. you could go w/o gas, but the welds are crappy and need brushing after every pass.

audio, not sure how i could post it. my digi camera will take a few seconds of video/audio. just not sure how good it would turn out. i'll record it tomorrow and hopefully someone can let me know how to post it or whatever.

thanks for all the comments.

Bro that is hot looking. I was actually thinking of doing something like that myself, but time and lack of welder is an issue.

My friend who currently has a civic that will run 11's told me that if I wanted to go striaght pipe but keep a low profile sleeper look/sound try a spiral resonator. He says it will help make things stock sounding. by the way his BOV is louder then his exhaust!

i have one question for everyone about installing a side mounted exhaust. If it were on infront of the tire wouldent it heat up the tire, and cause more treadware on that tire.

I drive my car a lot so if I were to do that wouldent it cause premature treadware? Like I drive a lot, and for long distances. Example would be from my parents house outside philthydelphia, pa, to my house at college in providence, RI, to newport, then to bostan mass, and then back home to my parents. all in 30 hours!

good question analcarowner. i really dont know, and honestly dont care. but it seems like the air going by will disperse the heat rather quickly. and considering that most street tires are of a hard compound anyways, it would take quite a bit of heat to break down the rubber molecules on the surface. i noticed when i put my hand in front of it that that the heat is not that bad. i figurre you put more heat in the tires driving around. and lastly i rotate my tires on a weekly basis, so treadwear is very even.

but since you bring it up i will keep my eyes on it.

Nice job
