Hello all, i have a question for all the exhaust guru's.

My girlfriend's stepdad (works in a machine shop) has offered to make me a custom cat-back exhaust.

I am looking at a magnaflow Mirror Finish Stainless Steel Street Series muffler, specifically the #14846 2.25" inlet, 6" diam. muffler, 4" diam. tip, 1" tip length, 14" length muffler body.

First, since it will be a cat-back system, do i need to have flanges custom made, or can i cut the cat flanges and just have the new pipe welded on? also, will the stock exhaust hanger locations work? I want the pipe to pretty much go straight back with as little bends as possible. So does this mean that i have to custom make hangers? also, the 240's exhaust, to my knowledge, is 2" in diameter, and this muffler has a 2.25" inlet...which means that i need a 2.25" pipe, correct? What is the best way to up-size the pipe diameter? if i need custom flanges, would it be smart to just make the flange holes 2.25" instead of the stock 2", assuming that the stock pipe is 2". Would i just be better off welding the 2.25" pipe directly on the catylitic converter and cutting the flange?

obviously, i'm getting rid of the resonator, so cut it from the equation.

what are my options? should i get a new cat? what should i do? HEEELLLLLPPPPP!!!!!

thanks!

i did a custom exhaust. yeah the factory size is 2". i bumped it up a 2.25, it gives me alot of top end power without taking all my low end tork. so far for me i am likeing it, and am not having any problems with it.

you oughta ask those brm guy(s) about exhaust and etc... AZhitman, the owner, for instance. club240.com has a good exhaust section also... i`d drop a duplicate thread over there.

if its a good exhaust shop, they should weld in the new hangers for u. its not hard. just make sure they're not using a crush bender. if its a reputable shop, they should be able to whip up anything. just tell them what u need.

i just had a custom exhaust slapped on. i put a straight pipe from the downpipe all the way to the muffler. the welder rigged up hangers in the stock locations for me so thats not a problem. as far as your idea for going straight back, if you literally mean -----------> straight back, your can't really do that too well as space is limited. you could probably minimize the degree of a few bends, however where your stock piping is, is pretty much where your new piping will have to go.

ok cool, i'll probably give you a call tomorrow (sunday, oct 10) since i was totally busy today with my birthday and all that good stuff. anyway, is that number your home, work, or cell, and what time would be a good time to call you? i'm in central time (-6:00), just fyi so we dont get mixed up. also, she said that her dad backed out of the deal, so it looks like i'm taking it to a muffler shop. anyway, im sure i can work it out with them. about how much do you think a muffler shop would charge? aw the hell with it, ill just ask you when i call you.

thanks, youll be hearing from me tomorrow!
