Hey, Check out my custom cold air intake. Ill try to post a picture on here but doubt it will work so you can go to my album here:

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290449039

But anyhow its a nice 7 dollar job I guess. How long it will last who knows but I do have my other filter in my trunk for when that one falls off **knock on wood**. Well give me your opinions on what you think of it. Also how bout when it rains with the position of the filter?? Any thoughts Well heres my attempt at posting the picture here:

thats a good start at least. Maybe you could cover that with fiberglass mat or carbon fiber and make a mold or something. Then make a bunch of 'em and sell 'em to everyone else.

I rem doing things like that... Well not quite that ghetto, as I only used it to duct cool air in. I hate having my filter down in a location where it can get messed up.

This is my ghetto 100% sealed true ram-air box with JWT pop charger:

I guess what I call ghetto is of a little higher standard hehe...

Thanks :)

That is a 3" intake hehe Its a ceramic coated (thermal wrapped as well on the low buck) HS intake tube, with a JWT pop charger inside the canister...

Larger MAFs will come when I drop the psuedo FI and go real FI, along with a larger TB and custom intake manifold... But untill then its fine....

I have seen some ghetto s*** in my life, but man, that takes the cake, why disgrace the 240 with that. Lol, that is just way to damn funny, my g/f doesnt know about engine mods and even she's laughing, if you were going for comedy then you got it right this time.

What the **** are you talking about? Its home made but no where near discracefull ghetto. You cant see the funnel as its black, the splash guards are on hiding the piping, and what else are you going to stuff a 7" dia. JWT pop charger into?

Its also the only S14 "TRUELY SEALED" functional ram air intake I have ever seen.. The 8" canister is professionally grafted into the 3" down tube via fiberglass and all solid internal edges have been smoothed for beter flow. The opening of the 3" down tube has also been shaved from 1/4" wall to 1/16" wall at the opening over a span of 3". Then the metal elbow has beenform fitted to the opening to eliminate turbulence again.

The 1/4" back cap is glassed on to the 8" tube as well as the epoxy then silicone sealants both blew off from the pressure it will contain at 80+ mph. Before it was 100% sealed I tested it to find 0 vaccume at speed on my NA motor.

The front 1/4" cap is sandwhiched between the jwt venturi filter base and the maf, with the hole exact. It utilizes 3 wing nuts, and bolts to hold it on, and has a 1/4" thick neoprene rubber gasket sealing it on.

Its so ghetto that it has lasted 2.5 years as well, and makes a very noticeable differnce in performance.

If I had my extra tank of argon, I drafted up an all aluminum one but I suppose that would be discracefull as well... Come out to OSW or better yet sebring in 2 weeks and have a go through the cones against my ghetto 240...

kingkong8247 - good start, nice to see people are whiling to make things for there car, and not just buy ****.

96_S14_SE - that looks really good, i am planing a simalar setup, but i was to make it rifled and use carbon fiber. i dont think i am going to do ram air, but i am going to make an open canister around the filter in my fender, to trap air around the filter.

Do what you want but why make the thing so twisty? I think all this work for 2hp is kinda dumb though....And if you mess around with all these air ducts made for washers and dryers and close off cone filters that are made to open? Just dont confuse a cool growling sound for hp!

hmmm why are people using tin foil drier hoses for intakes? Last time I checked you want to keep the temp of your intake down, that metal is a massive heat conductor, and theres no shield or anything to shield it from engine heat. I don't know if the engine is making enough heat to actually hurt your performance instead of help it but, I dunno, I picture cooking potatoes and stuff in that material....can you notice any dif at all? Also those tiny ridges all the way along the intake route is doing anything but help the air flow.

Haha, agreed shift. All these kinked hoses and restrictive heat conducting material. Pvc piping would do a better job than those things. You all should check out the custom short ram on 240sx.org. For like 2 bucks you can have a straight short ram that WORKS!

That looks pretty good man. I've been thinking about experimenting with a ram air set up myself. Nice air box. How much difference does it make dropping gears at highway speeds??
