We after much planing i finnaly made my custom CAI for my S-13. This was done useing 2'' shop vac hose and the sucker that is about 5inx3in. I used most of the hose and ran it from the passanger side to the bottom of the stock airbox. I had already taken off the "shoebox" thing so the pipe coming from the bottom of the airbox was just waiting for something to connect to. The hose slips on the pipe coming from the airbox PERFECT. After i trimmed a little area in the inside of the bumper "mouth" for the hose to run through, i ran the hose. The "scoop" is attached useing the 10mm bolt the holds the bumper skin on. I used the far right bolt to mount mine. I know it works because i ran the car wile i had the hood up. I can stick my hand by the intake and feel it sucking air. This was a experiment that works.

This is where the "shoebox" used to live. Now the hose runs through the hole to the scoop.

This is the stuff i needed to make the CAI.

Nice work my friend, but the only opinion I would want "if I was you" would be that of a dyno sheet?? I am very curious to see if it act. helps or not, regardless though, that was very cleaver.

OK... I think it is a great idea... but you have the hose out too long... the shortest it is the best results you will get.. the air will most likely not run all the way up to the box... i mean some will but not much... try going straight down from the airbox down to the driverside so the pipe is much shorter. and the straighter it is the better flow of air you will get!... but this could work..

no, air will get up there, once you reach speeds up around 30 plus mph. so you most likely wont feel much difference at all in first gear. a dyno may not show this mod justice if there actually any power gains b/c you need the car to be moving in order to force the air up the tube and in the air box.

try this:

take a short vaccume tube.. hold it straight up on one end and curved on the bottom... then take a hair dryer and turn it on from a distance.. not all the way close because then all the air will def. go through.. but see how much air comes out the top. then... take the long peice and do the same... you will see that the force of the air coming through is not as strong and you might loose *some* air through the long haul... yea... it will go through but i'm just saying he will have better results from making the piping short and as straight as possible...

yeah, why did you run the hose all the way from the passenger side (where the throttle body is) to the driver's side (where the shoebox thing was) and back to the passenger side anyway?and do you have a filter in this thing? just wondering, since you took the shoebox apart

Yes there is a filter in the airbox. Also the reason i ran it from the pass side is on the drivers side the hose had to make a right hand turn to get back to the airbox. Anyone who has a shopvac knows those hoses kink easy. And it does work. The idea of it was once your moving at a good speed it would force air into the intake. Im lookin into a way to mount the scoop in another location closer to the box. Its raining HARD so im not gona mess with it today.
