i've just completed the rear bumper to my custom kit. everything is drawn out and to me look pretty professional. the kit is pretty much a combination of c-west, bomex, and gtp. the only thing i need now is someone to build it for me. does anyone know of anybody that can do this for me? how much would it cost, how long would it take and how can i make a profit off of it? i know that the blueprint and or kit would have to be sold to a company. How would i go about this? This is pretty much what i wanted to do as a profession so people who could realy help would be apprecciate it.

2 ways you can go about doing this... my friend was in your situation a few yrs ago.

1) find a trades person in a bodyshop, or an industrial arts student that is familiar with the material you are using - their costs of building your prototype won't be too high, and you keep the rights to your intellectual property

2) go to a trades school to learn how to do it - there are courses that will probably take you three weeks' worth of week nights, but you will learn everything you need to know

Hope these help

Building body kits is something I am planning on trying out come spring when it is warm out. I have an uninsulated garage to work with so the weather is an issue for me. If you are going to build with fiberglass I would reccomend a book by Simon McBeath called "Competition Car Composites" it is very helpfull and easily understood.

Sorry I have no advice for selling your design to manufacturers, I would say just call them up and ask them about it. See where that gets you.

If you're willing to sacrafice any amopunt of money, I'd reccommend carbon fiber. And for those of you about to scream rice, look at it this way. #1 market it to Honda owners. yep, that's kinda ricey. #2 what's lighter than CF? #3 What's stiffer than CF?

#4 What do you do with CF when it cracks? nuttin, throw it out and start again....not worth it on a daily driver, a little fender bender may ruin it....

I too am going to be building a custom kit, a wide body S14, although i may still get a S15 front end.....i'd like to be the only Wide body GTR powered S14 in the world, time to empty my pockets....

Answer to #4 Buy new CF? Yeah , you do have a point, nice for some bits, but hell with body parts. good luck on the widebody project. I hope it turns out better than some of the hacked together ****e I've seen so far.

I think i'm gonna stick to nissan for ideas and model it similar to the rear quarter of the R34 and try not to make it too much. It was either that or fender flares....

Woah, Deja Vu, I was thinking about that last night. I have a HB, and I was planning on going with the JDM tails, but then I was thinnking, since the 180 tails are round and so are the Skylines.... I guess great minds do think alike. Now if you managed to come up with a clean widebody kit for the s13 Fastback that retains the smooth lines.....mmmm yummy.

Well one step at a time, lol, i'll design and build one for mine first and see how it goes, but you never know, there just might be a market out there for a S13 widebody kit.....oh and yeah i know it's a lot of work, but it's my job/career/pasion so it's so worth it.....it's all about being unique.....

actualy CF is rather flexible. its just pretty strong. thats why most companies back it with fiberglass

but yeah if you want to sell it to a company you should have it done out on cad. because you wont get anywhere if you sho up to a company with nothing but a crumpled piece of papaer with scketches all on it... you need to have a full set of plans. get a normal orthographisc set up then do it isometric, or if you can go as far as 3d.

um as far as building it. do the whole foam base and then make a mold off that (now what to make the mold out of i have no clue) so taht you can lay the lass in side the mold, let it dry, and pull it out and start all over...

hoped that helped....

i actually got a friend of mine who is taken up computer graphics and just got done talking to him about my plain and he said that he'll design it up for me. so i'll just have to wait and see how that goes. after that i'll just over to philly to this model shop and buy a 180sx model build it and then i'll use strecth theroy and make the kit to put on the car. so that i don't waste TO MUCH money. also i was thinking of making a widebody kit too for the 180 as soon as i got done with this one. i all ways wanted a WBK ever since i seen the one on jspec.com too bad they don't make it anymore:( but im not going to go threw with it. i was just going to desing a few for fun besides it takes too much time and money to build IMO.

yeah if your just making it for your self then dont worry to much about the drawings. but if you want to have it turned into a company make sure all the drawings are very good and dimensioned well and complete.

how do you plan to build in polyurethane????

I have no clue what you have to do to construct with this material, any one got any info???

As for a widebody kit, I want one too, that is one of the reasons I am planning on teaching myself kit design/manufacture. Even if I cant do the widebody kit I can still sell other parts that are simpler.
