Concerning taking the G to FI.

Personally, I had kinda decided to limit my beast and stick with Vortech. In fact, I had plan to wait for the right deal on a USED vortech system.

Then I called Sharif at Forged performance in Atlanta. He was REALLY pushing a twin turbo kit. I told him I just didn't want to spend $20,000 on a build and twins. He assurred me that he has put many twins on engines with stock internals with conservative boost levels. He also said that the twins provide soooooo much more torque that they blow away the Vortech Sc'ers. I have no need or desire to be the fastest on the street but I would like to get the most out of my money. I constantly hear how addicting boost is.

He mentioned ballpark figures of $8-10K for supercharger system installed and tuned and $10-12K for APS twins installed and tuned.

To further complicate the decisions, I have been folowwing a thread on a competing, and very popular, forum that asked FI veterans what they would do if they could go back and start over again. Many folks said they would NOT go FI and just drive and enjoy the car with NA mods!!!!

I have read your threads concerning the Utec system and like the idea of getting one, then tune the car with as many NA mods that make sense. It seems like a nice way of breaking up the cost of a FI install a little. I have been holding off on the Mrev and spacer mods for intake because I wanted to spend the money on a one piece phelum like Cosworth that would kick mucho @ss when going FI. I don't mind spending cash, just want to spend it wisely. If only I had a crystal ball

I currently only have a Fast Intentions catback exhaust and k&n filter with 350Z tube. I guess I'll stick to suspension next.....perhaps Crawford HFCs and a lightweight pulley, grounding kit...then decide on phelum and get Utec.

Anyone have any input?

Wise words......but believe it or not......I'm prettty well set with my 401k. During my SECOND divorce, I gave away the equity in the house in order to keep my 401k intact. I am probably too old to be modding a car...but I have been an auto enthusiast for many years and this is what I enjoy doing!

The smartest move I have made finacially in the past few years was to buy my 2006 G35 coupe. There for a while I was buying new cars at a rate of about two a year....from dealerships!!!!

I had a deal lined up with a buddie who is the manager at an infiniti dealership for a 2008 G37 at VVP or VPP pricing but actually liked the exterior and wheels of the G35 so saved myself almost $20,000.

But I do have my limit and am not going to put $20,000 back into the G by building the engine and getting twins. Kinda scared to buy used but vortech does have an upgrade program....... gotta live a little.

As always, the 401k cannot escape this. I have a strong feeling that one day we will all be thanking you for this advice

I completely agree with your methodology in moding out your car. I am on a similar track myself.

In fact, the test pipes I have on the car behave more like a very small 1 - 1.5 psi turbo that kicks in at about 5k RPM---I mean you literally feel it kick in, and you feel that sudden jerk and throw back on the seat---I spanked a BMW the other day. I wonder what would happen when I add Strup headers? Strup test pipes already kick a$$.

I bet with a Utec/tuning and Strup headers, I have no doubt the car is capable of achieving close to 320 horses at the crank with just NA mods. It would appear that NA done properly isn't that bad at all.

I thought getting into a lot of debt and declaring bankruptcy was the American way? Better correct me quickly Telco if I'm wrong!

yea for now I think im going to stay NA....

If you put the Good Gas in and do all your NA mods..

On my list of things to do are

350zHR Y pipe, Test pipes, Mrev2 and Spacer, Ztube and JWT Pop charger, SBD's wires.

I have the coupe mid pipe already.

I am sure a Vortech SC would really make the G a blast to drive... but Im thinking that NA it can be just as much fun!

Yea...The more I think about FI while I drive around town......the more I realize just how few opportunites there really are where I would be able to open her up and use 400 whp.

I sent an email to CrawfordZ which is about 15 minutes away....to get their opinion on pullies and to ask about suspension. I'm sure they could help me keep occupied with pleanty of mods.

Next year, I am adding stiffer sway bars (probably Stillen Swy bars). I am still trying to decide whether to add one or the either of Strupp headers (about $850 to buy and install) or Utech (about $1,300 to buy and install) with tuning or add both. I already have the mrevv, 5/16 spacer, JWT Pop charger, Stillen TD catback exahaust, and Strup test pipes. I am also still amazed and extremely happy at how fuel efficient my car has become since using Chevron with Techron and Mobil EP 5W-30 Synthetic oil--the car sips gas--I don't know how the car is able to do such a trick. Even my tires are wearing very nicely unlike when I used to have air in the old Bridegstone RE0050A tires--I have Nitrogen in my 4 tires (Toyo Proxes T1R) and it seems to be helping the tires, especially the rear tires, wear evenly---I willl need more time to confirm this. In general, I am extremely satisfied (120%) with the current state and performance of the car in every department of it.

Pension plan FTW!!!!!!

If you have the excess cash to do something like this, go for it! You only live once, and you usually only get 1 shot to do something big. If it's something you truly enjoy, go for it. You might end up regretting it.

On the other hand, you don't want to put yourself between a rock and a hard place - make sure you have the cash to do it and that it won't sink you...
