curious about kae ecu/harness on a kade...discuss?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

everytime I see this subject posted everyone always says you gotta switch to the dohc ecu/harness when useing the dohc motor....but why...almost all the sensors are in the block as well as the distributor.I know the injectors are very different, but you can just change the plug ends for those (or is the resistance very different??)...all the intake manifold sensors are vacuum..that that's easy enough to match to the kae vacumm sensors.....so I fail to see why can't you use the sohc ecu and harness.

most tps sensors are very similar and often interchangeable if not easily modded to work.

it's still a 2.4 liter it's not a displacement difference so the fuel map will be very similar, and it's a maf sensed motor so it always knows how much air is going in and will give the fuel to match it.(to a point then you need a bigger pump and injectors, but prolly not for na with stock compression)

I'm just curious about the possibility, i don't a few swaps with toyotas and honda where I'ved the old ecu and things work very nicely...but I haven't yet have much time to really tear into my s13 and check think out and compare the diofferneces between the kae and kade....i'm also avaoiding the topic of the head swap cause I've read about the problems and come with that.

anyone with ideas feel free to post

Just because the sensors are similar doesnt mean they have the same outputs. You would likely need to swap a few sensors and DEFINATELY use the SOHC MAF. It's probably more work than it's worth, but I'm sure a determined penny pincher with more time than money can pull it off.

jp86, your thinking is correct it can be done.

I forgot the guys screen name, but he was the person that recently swapped the de cylinder head on his e block in a stanza. He was able to use the obd1 altima de distributor with the sohc stanza ecu. The obd1 240sx de distributor should do the same, although im not sure about plug working.

you can delete both of the vacuum units that sit at the rear of the head on sohc and other emission tidbits, everything else should basically swap over. You know well enough youll have to change some plugs, and like IveBeenBad mentioned youll need the sohc maf. Injectors are high impedence and will work with sohc ecu. Not sure about tps sensor being compatible, if not there is most likely a simple way to make things work. You will also lose all knock sensor function, its a primitive listening system anyways.

You can always easily tune the sohc ecu to provide the dohc exactly what it needs as far as timing/fuel map. Should be very little change if any to make it run like stock.

all right this is some good info soo far...and yes I have more time then money and am a curious person.

I would use the sohc maf and distributor of course and as many of the sohc sensors as possible if not all of them.

well i'm glad i asked in that case. still learning a lot about nissans this is my 1st one, I started toying with hondas back in the mid/late 90's then moved to toyotas when i got hooked on rwd and played with those for quite a while, but I wanted something between the ae86 and the supra....so the s13 was the right fit...anyway kinda off topic here.

i should ask a few other questions thenthe sohc flywheel/clutch/transmission???? same as the dohc parts??

is the sohc power steering rack the same as dohc steering rack?? I know the pumps are different and are on opposite sides of the motor and so the lines and routing are different.

are the altenators the same, location/plugs??

starters the same??

if I did a harness swap, do all the engine bay harnesses change or just the one on the motor, like does the enginebay fues boxes move??
