Hey guys, just a simple quick question:

The cup holder doesn't stay shut anymore, it just stays open. Instead of clicking when closing, and staying shut, there is no latching or anything, just glides back open.

I didn't have any tools handy, and couldn't really tell exactly what was broken.

Anyone know what usually breaks when this doesn't stay shut, or what I can do to fix it?

Just not really sure how it actually works...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

remove the cup holder, and everything should be visible once removed, to remove it:

open the cover of the centre glove box, you will see a black trim piece that is between that box and cup holder assy. , pry it out carefully, there are two plastic clamps that are part of the trim, make sure you dont break them. then you will have access to the 2 philips screws holding the cup holder, the cup holder should come out easily afterwards

once that is done, you will see the mechanism (the button will stay in the console), inspect it, and fix and return everything in revese order, i hope this helps, good luck

Alright, took it all apart, and I can't tell what is broken or not operating properly.

The button presses down, and you can see the plastic piece under the button moving, but there is no latch, or anything to catch the cup holder?

I'm not understanding how this works, and obviously I can't tell what broke.

Can't believe all this trouble for the cup holder cover...

IIRC there are 4 pieces (a button, two springs and a black plastic latch) that are needed to catch the lip on the cup holder cover when closed. The black plastic latch has a nub that catches the cover on the underside toward on the front. Inspect the cover and latch for worn or broken bits of plastic. It is possible to super glue more plastic bits if the latch is worn but takes some trial and error.

You can also try popping out the pieces and cleaning them. If pop or goop gets in there it could be preventing the latch from moving to the closed position.

Hope this helps, Ebb
