Anyone who owns a Cube, please tell me what is the real-world gas mileage? They advertise 30mpg. Is that accurate? Is it more or less?

Thanks!

Hi There. We're just on our third tank of gas. We have averaged 30.5 so far. We are in Denver (high altitude) with the AC running all the time, SL with CVT. I've seen as high as 35.5mpg on the highway to Boulder running between 60-70mph.

I have the 6sp manual. For the first 2 tank, I've average around 30mpg (60% hiway, 40% city driving). I do drive it with ease during the break in period though.

My overall gas mileage average so far with 5500 miles on the Cube is 29.3 miles per gallon.

I have a Cube Krom with the CVT.

And that average is via manualy calculating the gas mileage at each fillup. The computer mpg average display in the gauge cluster is pretty inaccurate.

the epa shows the cvt getting 1 mpg more than a manual, anyone confirm or deny this?

I am buying a black on black with a 6 speed today and I was just curious...

I think the cvt does get 1 to 2 mpg than the manual. Manual is the way to go as reliability of the cvt is still uncertain. Please check out the Versa site to find out what I am talking about.

I'm getting 31mpg according to the computer.

Accurate or not, it's still pretty damn good.

CVT, and I drive it hard in urban traffic.

The CVT should get better MPG than a manual tranny. Congrats

400 miles on the cube. 6 speed. Driving conservative. First tank 34.99 calculated. Using average MPG display 35mpg. I do drive the speed limit and get to high gear by 40 mph. All city driving no air running

My goodness that IS conservative driving.

Just for a laugh - I thought I would see how much money you are saying by driving like ... well ... a turtle on Quaaludes ... versus say me who generally drives like a proverbial "bat outta hell."

Assuming 12k a year at $2.60 a gallon. Your saving around $11 a month.

Yes of course I probably have increased wear costs but you'd have increased dry cleaning costs to get the sweat out of your seats and clothes by not running the AC... Besides Myth Busters already proved that running the AC uses less gasoline than running with your windows open at highway speeds. MAN DONT YOU SEE you're wasting gas AND dry cleaning costs!

Seriously tho it seems to me if you were willing to drive THAT conservatively to save $11 a month you would've been better served with a Honda Insight. No?.

Well to each his own I guess... I just can't fathom what satisfaction you are getting out of that.

Wifes Cube SL CVT gets 30.8 HWY city gets 28.6 with AC running at 72 all the time. I wonder if a short ram intake will increase the average mpg or lower it?

Well that is why it would be bad if we were all alike. I use air if I need it. But I also dont believe in wasting fuel when it is not necessary. I dont need an Insight as I have a Prius and Smart car sitting in the garage with the cube but I am a hypermiler.

Oh man don't get me started with the Smart car.... For it's size it weighs more than I would expect (2400 lbs???) and yet mpg wise it is hardly any better than the average econobox, at least the EPA numbers are. Curious, what kind of real mpg are you getting with the Smart car?

EDIT: OK I take that back, I just checked again in yahoo autos and it seems I had wrong information, so the Smart fortwo weighs in at 1800 lbs... OK I suppose. 1.0L 70 bhp engine getting 33/41 mpg.. not ok. Older Civics and Corollas got those #s, with room for 4 and at another 700 lbs more. But I think that's because of the aerodynamics of the car more than the weight...It's just like driving a box, the vacuum created behind the near vertical rear of the car at higher speeds probably causes a lot of drag, hence lower mpg #s.

Of course, I can't wait to see someone slap a turbo on one of those or perhaps a motorcycle engine. hahaha.... Thread Hijack FTL.

Wait - what - So you have a Prius, Cube, and Smart car?Dare I ask for an explanation as to why those three?

I'm curious too - based on your driving - what MPG are you getting on each?

Ok the smart gets 38-40 mpg consistently. And yes it weighs 1800lbs.

The Prius get 48-51 in the summer with air running as the air runs off the batteries. In the winter the Prius does 41-45.

TrueDelta conducts a real-world gas mileage survey that includes questions on driving style and driving conditions, so people can find the responses that fit the driving they do.

No results posted for the cube yet. Some people here have signed up to participate in our Car Reliability Survey. If you have a minute, please post some MPG results as well.

Once we have some results for the cube, I'll be able to post a link to them.

Until then, a general link:

my results are a worst case scenario, a/c on, 95 degrees average outside temp, rediculous stop and go traffic ,( 12 mile commute= one hour!) , is about 24.0 at the computer. my highway mileage is more like 33 both numbers beat the hell out of my jeep at about 13 mpg

I commute daily 32 miles. Both ways I climb a major mountain (12-15mpg) but then I coast up and down the hills to and from work. Average speed is about 50 mph (gotta watch for those ninja deer that sneak out onto the road) I'm getting about 31 mpg average per fill up. I did take a little highway trip and I averaged 40mpg with the air on and doing 75mph. For me driving my cube is a gas saver since I was driving a silverado which cost me $15 a day to get to and from work.

My cube is an "S" model with a 6 speed manual. I now have about 1200 miles on the clock. It started off averaging 27.8 MPG. This mileage was during a 700 mile trip home right after buying it.

But now at home with it as my daily transportation it's averaging 30.8 MPG.

I'm not a lead foot but do speed up to traffic and don't hesitate getting up to speed. On the open road I usually keep the speedo somewhere between the posted speed limit and 10 MPH above. I do use the cruise control when possible.

I drive a good mix between city and highway driving with some of it mountainous.

I would say so far about 90% of my driving has been with the A/C on. - Dan

I have the SL with a CVT. My comp said I was getting close to 32, but when I calculated miles driven vs. gallons filled it was closer to 29. I drive mostly local roads with a lead foot.

It just ain't cool to try & be a boy racer with a Cube, dude. But don't get me wrong, we are driving faster than Hondas. Oh, and those savings... more like $50 per month.

Sure, if you want to go half the speed of traffic & get half the MPG. Those Civics are slower than kidney stones.

I'm averaging about 26.5 or so in my Krom Cube combined city/ highway. And i have the CVT. These Numbers are from the factory computer. But then again, it says my average mph is about 33-35. I commute everyday about 40 miles on the highway... I wonder about that computer...

I'm mildly amused that my Altima Coupe gets better highway mileage than the Cube and only just slightly worse city mileage. Oh well...I'm still getting one anyway!

Pfft, so many haters. Smart cars are part of Auto Design history. The idea was conceived by a Mercedes designer in 1972! That car is awesome.

The Prius I am not a fan of. It's production process pollutes more than two H2s coming off a line. Dumping the battery of a Prius or Insight is so bad on the environment. Then again the Chevy Volt's lithium-ion battery might blow up under hot temperatures.

Electric cars are the way of the future, if the world wasn't so scared of it.

But back on topic, I average 28-30 city, and about 30-40 hwy.
