A CT26 turbo that I might buy has a little shaft play from side to side but it's so little like less than half a mm. Has anyone here tried running a turbo with a little shaft play, will it easily break, and do you think it's worth the $150-$200 I'm paying for it???

The CT26 is a decent turbo. I have seen them boost 15 psi all day long on the MR2. The CT26 is pretty resilient, a tad of shaft play isn't bad. Worse case, in a year or two I show you how how to rebuild it for under 100 bucks.

Less than 1mm? How long has it been sitting?

It was brought from Japan around 8 months ago and kept in the closet, but it still spins easily and doesn't come close to touching the turbo housing.

It has to have oil in it to cushion the bearings, otherwise you will have play. I just rebuilt mine, and it has play because it has never been ran.
