Well these are my subs (Creative Sound Solutions SDX-15) hooked up to a Crown CE4000. Each sub is wired for 4 ohms so the amp only puts out about 1kw/chan at 4ohms. My clip lights never came on so I sent them less than 1kw, but it was close. As you can see these subs can handle more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODm5G4nA ... zMJS5iOD5I <-- kinda crappy vidhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz3s4jKqtTw <-- Much better vid

Buy one for your car, you will not be disappointed.

Still in the works. I can't settle on one design. I may have to build multiple enclosures, test them and see which one I like best.

And the key is linearity. It's rocking and rolling, but still within a linear motion, which means low distortion. It'll move 60mm (2.36") peak to peak within a 70% BL (motor force) and 80mm (3.15") at it's excursion limits. That's right around the same as what the JL 13W7 does...but at 1/3 the price.

#1 Large ported. 11.5ft^3 tuned to 15hz. But that brings more problems. - A. 6" round port could have chuffing issues at high outputs at <20hz. - B. Large slot ports eliminate chuffing, but now bring about 1st harmonic resonances that could be problematic - C. How to move a 2ft x 2ft x 4ft enclosure that weighs over 200lbs? - D. How to fit a giant enclosure in your room so that it looks nice? - E. How to finish a giant enclosure so that it's not too expensive but still looks nice. Some Veneers could cost over 400.00 to finish just one enclosure. Piano black will cost quite a bit AND take a LOT of work!

#2 Medium sealed. 4.5ft^3. - A. I lose a lot of output from 11-45hz in comparison to the large ported enclosure.

As a reminder, these are for my house, not my car! They work well for either though as you can see from my video.

Ahhh, that explains the crown amp. How loud is this really going to be? I've got a 8" velodyne sub that has all I need for low end.

Ah yes, my Crown CE4k. It's tested to 981w/chan (both chan's tested) at 20hz (with a sinewave not burst test) with 1%THD+N.http://home.pacbell.net/lordpk/bink/bink.jpg

Ported? It'll depend on room gain. I'm going to sit about 4yds away from them...so I should easily have 110-114db from 15hz+. In the middle of my room, between the two subs where you could dance/rock out...116-122db

Sealed? Drop the 12-30hz by about 5-8db depending on the frequency. 31-45hz will be down only a few db. Below 12hz I'm not too worried about.

Another thing though is my mains are pretty beefy. Currently they're a pair of Cerwin Vega LS-12's, but I'm going to replace them with some Lambda MTM's. They use dual 10" drivers as the mid/mid-bass and a high efficiency 6" ribbon tweeter capable of 120db output (at 1M) with a normal receiver. (John J. from http://www.aespeakers.com specs them to do 130db peaks with a heafty amp)
