I just want to hear some opions on cryo treating the rb20 trans gears. I've seen places online that will treat the gears for about $100. All you do is take them out as a unit and send it to them. Would it be worth it for $100 while you had the trans off doing a clutch? Anybody have any real experience with cryo treating? Just curious.

tearing apart the trans is allot like tearing apart the motor--If it is not broke-----DONT!!! It is worth it to cryo treat the flywheel.

I wouldn't even bother unless like Rotorimp said.."unless its broken"

Or if your doing a complete tear down.

But usually in this case its if you run into the situation that your killing the gears then you'll look towards solutions as in cyro treating, larger transmission rb25/z32, or AUTO.

What is your set up if I may ask?

T3/to4e, tomie procam 260, tomie springs, sard 720s, port and polished head, fmic, 3 inch turbo back are all on there right now. I will be putting a Tial 38mm wastegate on soon. When all that gets dialed in I would like to start looking into rb25 crank, custom forged pistons, and rb26 rods.

I've looked into autos but, by the time you make them track worthy you could have just bought a rb25 trans.

I would stay with the RB20 transmission until it gives you problems, then upgrade, there are people that have ran similar and more demanding setups that have used the 20 trny just fine.

Dude dont listen to them. Your mods suggest u want more than ur stock motor puts out. The rb20 transmission is a POS and it WILL break. Question is do u want to got through 6 trannies or 2. Get that **** cryo'd. Who the **** need a cryo'd flywheel??? Laugh.

the thing is its not going to cost just $100. He needs the transmission disassembled, cyro'd, then reassembled. If you chooses to spend that much on such a transmission thats his choice. I don't care what he does with it. If he cryo's it good, the transmission will be better than what it was before. However, there are more cost effeciant routes than that, as stated, Z32, RB25, etc.

Good luck

Guess I should have been more specific. I have no problems tearing the transmission down myself. The only cost would be shipping and the cryo treating, nothing else.

If you have it apart go for the cryo treatment and look into the REM process
