i was going to build my sr with BC con-rods, but as was reading that stock rods can handle 450hp fine. so i am thinking of having mine cryo treated and shoot peened,(local shop prices: cryo-ed 10.00 ea. and shot peened about 20.00 for all 4)not bad. but what i was also wondering (and i cant decide) if i want to get ARP con-rod bolts. the reason i am undecided is that i also read if you get the ARP rod bolts on the stock rods the bearing race is put out of circle and you have to get them reconditioned. i cant decide if i want to do the ARP rod bolts. do you guys from your expirences with stock rods recomend i do the ARP rod bolts at the same time i get them cryo-ed and shoot peened?

Machining for the bearing races varies. Local shops quoted me around 70 or so for the first rod, and then backed it off as they added rods. I think I was quoted around the 180-200 range. I decided to stick with brand new OE rod bolts, since I've never seen them fail on an SR.

I'm not sure if they have to do any machining inside the bearing races after cryo. Ask them if it's recommended. If they do, then go ahead and do ARP. If they say it's not needed, just stick with stock. The races will need to be rehoned at the very least from the shot peening.

so you got brand new rod bolts and slapped them on your exsisting(old) rods, did you have your rods cryo treated and shot peened or are they completely stock with new OE bolts?

The reason im going to do the cryo and peen is that since the rods are used w/ xxx amount of miles on them, i feel that if im going to be making more power to the wheels with those rods they will need to be strenthened. but i just dont feel like going w/ARP bolts and having them recondition the rods after, especially if its going to cost almost as much as new eagles or BC rods.

i think it would be a better route and safer to just get the new OE rod bolts put in my cryo and peened rods rather than leave the old ones in and having a rod bolt break later on down the road causing a major failure. what do you guy(s) think? thanks
