CRX Convertible

I know this goes against brand loyalty, but this thing was so cool I had to post it. I had never seen one of these before. This is a true 1987 CRX convertible, from the factory. One of 304 made, according to the owner. I saw this when I was going into Postnet. I almost didn't ask the driver but I was curious and I figured the worst he would do was tell me to get the hell out of his face and away from his car. Fortunately he was a cool guy who was really proud of it. He gave me a rundown of it and even let me take some pictures. All he has ever done to it mechanically is just general maintenance. He put a new top on it last year and he re-did the upholstery on the seats. Other than that, it's original. He has always owned it, it has around 60K, and still gets +/- 40 mpg.

When I first approached the guy, I asked him if it was modified or if it was for real. The story behind the car is this: Honda built a few of them and sent them out into test markets. The response was less than favorable so they axed the program. The old man wouldn't say where he got his and I didn't push it. i was just happy he took a few minutes out of his day to tell me the story.

lol...damn Beat. It's possible to find them for sale over here once in a while...probably about the same size as a smart car, maybe a little longer.

I wanna say it's a 3 cylinder just under a liter in displacement.

For the record, they are not factory Honda offerings, but are Honda Dealer options. Most were converted before delivery to the Honda dealer and sold new as convertibles at the dealership. It was thought that 310 were built, but estimates of 130 or so seem more realistic. These were NOT some sort of Honda prototype or evaluation car.

Straman also converted about the same number Z31 300ZX and 70-some Z32 300ZX.
