While jacking up the car, I put the jack underneath the oilpan of the engine instead of the front macpherson strut body. The oilpan is heavily deformed.

Is this going to affect the engine cooling?

no probably not engine cooling, but depeding on how defored the crank shaft could hit it, or you could have blocked/bent/broken the oil pickup. or the oil level could be higher and the crank shaft could hit that

Just some Ideas, depending on how bad its bent It could be fine or you might need a new oilpan. Do you have any pictures?

If you lifted the bottom of the oil pan more then 1/2 an inch at its lowest point you will restrict oil flow to the engine as the sump will be partially blocked. If which case you need to remove the oil pan and either replace it or beat the inside of it back down with a hammer. If you go with the latter make sure you dont deform the mounting area or you will have leaks.

ouch. Yes. it'll have to be lifted about half an inch to an inch to get at the bolts.

You can either lift the engine of the mounts with the lift or use a steel cross brace to support the engine and lower the crossmember. I preffer to lower the cross memeber.

Nistech,

Could you tell me more about using steel cross brace to raise the engine? Wished I could use a hydraulic jack...

Thanks,

Its called an engine support and it does not raise the engine it mearly holds it in place while you lower the mounting point out from underneath it. The bar sits oneach strut tower and has a hook on it that you hook into you lift loop located at the front of the engine. This will suspend your engine while you remove the lower crossmeber a bit to allow the pan to slide out. What i do is once I have it hooked, I go down and remove the 2 nuts under the motor mounts holding it to the crossbar, Then I got back up top and use the nut on the hook to raise the engine a little to take its weight off the cross bar [this is important when trying to bolt up the cross member when going back together]. Then i slowly remove the bolts holding the crossbar to the car. I am trying to remember if I left the rack attached to the cross member or not, not sure but at that point you will figure out what needs to be down just by watching how the parts are moving with it. I think I did unbolt it since it was stressing the steering coloum shaft.

EDIT: You may be able to rent a engine support bar from a local rental yard.
