Hello all,

So the family has narrowed it down to a used 2nd gen Armada (2017 or 2018) and a used QX80 (2015, 2016 or 2017) with similar KM's. I do not plan on utilizing the vehicle for towing ever, it's simply a vehicle we always wanted due to it's looks and size....consider this to be a weekend toy for the family.

Questions:

1) Aramada using regular fuel vs QX80 using premium fuel does one give me more KM's on a full tank vs the other? I am hearing that QX80 premium fuel gets me farther on a tank therefore makes up for the higher price in premium gas.

2) Armadas rust easily vs QX80s - is this true?

3) Will the Armada or QX80 have a body change in the next few years?

4) Which one has LESS problems for a used vehicle?

Thanks everyone!

Welcome aboard!

1) The Armada and QX80 are identical vehicles. As such, their engines and drivetrains are the same, and they require the same fuel. Both get horrendous mileage, and both will run fine on 87 octane. The differences will be negligible (based on the weight of extra goodies on the QX).

2) See above. They're the same vehicle.

3) Hard to say. Don't hold your breath. Even if they did, that's silly money for what's essentially a poorly-executed Suburban/Tahoe.

4) Again, they're identical. Repairs will be pricey, with the QX obviously having more "goodies" to fail.

Thanks AZ....

I had no idea the QX could use regular fuel without any engine issues/knocks......

I have a lexus that states i need to run premium.... and people keep saying if i run regular fuel on it, I will mess with the engine and I will experience heavy "knocking" in the engine.

Big difference.

Your Lexus (like my LS460L) likely has a higher-compression engine designed for 91+ octane. Sure, the ECU can pull enough timing to make it work, but it won't be happy.

The issue with the QX/Armada is this: They're the same damn engine (see also, Titan). So, for Infiniti to recommend premium and Nissan to say 87 octane is OK, tells me there's some shenanigans afoot. If they were tuned differently, I could see the reasoning - but their HP/TQ numbers are the same.

With all that said, if I were in that market, there are better vehicles in that class (the big LX comes to mind).

Thanks again.

The Lexus LX is a beauty but too expensive for a used vehicle. Lexus retains such a good resale value.

Also i love the look and interior space of the QX.

So I was looking further into the QXs today and noticed the QX 56s are much cheaper. Mind you they have higher kms.....

For example a 2011 qx56 with 127,000 km is going for 17K Canadian.

The 2016 Qx80 I was contemplating has 40,000 km and is selling for 43K......

If after 2 years I want to sell the 2016 Qx80 I would get good resale price.....

Hmmm. I'm not so sure you can extrapolate that from those examples.

A 2011 and 2016 aren't the same platform. The earlier models were Titan based, the later models are Patrol based.

I'm not sure Lexus depreciation is any better or worse than Infiniti (my $82k car cost me $5k - 2011 with 90k miles).

Depreciation on luxury vehicles (especially ones that get 13mpg) is dismal, regardless. In 2 years, that QX will be worth $18k.

At the end of the day, buy the car you like best, and know that you may lose all of your investment (it's a depreciating asset that will, in short order, be worth $100 in scrap steel). :)

The 2011 QX56 is Patrol based. 2010 QX56 was last Titan based QX.
